Howdy, Folks. New here, but have lurked and read/watched with pleasure for some time now. I have been buying and using custom and semi-custom knives for well, about 35 years now. No safe queen feller, I. I admire blades, and believe that they are best appreciated when used as they were designed to be used - HARD and in the field. I thought I knew a thing or two about what constitutes a good knife, and thought I owned a few, too. But then a while back I began hearing about these Busse blades and a steel called INFI, attached to which were claims that surely were born in the fabled land of Hyperbole. Been watching you folks here a while now, and having taken a liking to y'all (I love informed enthusiasm for the finer things in life, like good steel), and thinking you sound like you know of what you speak, I have bitten the bullet and decided to see for myself.

So I figured it best to see how these Busses work - both big and small. Timing seemed pretty good, with the ASHBM and the AMS available for ordering. Last month, I put in for one of each in CG, both in muddy with tan micarta. Choil option taken. Gotta carry a blade effectively to use her in the field, so after looking around I spoke with Skyler at Skystorm and have a dual-carry rig for the BM and a crossdraw for the MS under construction. Skyler was great to work with on the custom process.

Just got word that my card was charged by Busse Combat, so I am hoping this means that I am getting close to seeing this fabled INFI stuff soon.

Anyhow, just wanted to say, "hi," and for what it is worth, I will let you know whether I think y'all are crazy as rats in a coffee can or possessors of genuine steel genius. Lookin' forward to it. I suppose if the latter proves to be the case, I will soon be selling off a lot of knives . . .

Cheers!

Ken

I'm in the same boat as you. Spent a while collecting and using some pretty nice blades with Busse always kinda floating around the edge of my perception. I finally decided to pop in here and see what all the excitement was about, and I quickly fell in love with a couple of designs. Bought a small one from the exchange and placed an order for a TGLB in the same week. After getting the smaller one (a Scrofa from the custom shop) I realized I was in for a long wait to get my TGLB :p

Thanks for the welcome, folks.

Grease, how do you like that Sus Scrofa? I am a fan of wharns and sheepsfeet - amazing utility. Though the Scrofa is more of a hawksbill, I have been eyeing one. I wish a straight edge sheepsfoot was offered. If I like these Busses, maybe the custom shop would do it.

Cheers
Ken

My scrofa is a bit different. :D

They thinned down the blade and tip, making it a mean little slicer.

Congratulations Ken!!
You will love your new AMS and ASHBM!!!! ;)

Welcome to the Busse madness!

Welcome Kenneth. As Lycosa said, you will see, HOGs are both nutty and right!

Nuts, right, and generous, well, that's alright in my book.
Nice to see you all don't take yourselves too seriously. The knives are quite another thing, of course!
Thanks again for the welcome!

If you come in here and start taking yourself seriously then the reality check is at the door ;) Two things add up to make Busse knives what they are, clearly people who spend the $$s on bit of metal that is required to won a Busse are serious about knives and those knives live up to most people's expectations, the other thing is the PEOPLE this little "club" brings you into contact with, this includes the owner and staff of the company that makes them (and it IS rare in most industries that there is this much contact on this level) plus the other owners and interested owners all around there are some damn fine people involved and you don't have to scratch the surface too far here to realise there have been some really strong friendships formed here.

You will form you own opinions of the knives, no amount of talk/BSing etc etc from anyone on here will do that for you, if you come back and say "I just don't like them" then that is OK as well (but let me be the first to make an offer of that "used" and devalued ASHBM :D :D ) ... knives etc really are very individual things.

Welcome to it.

The SS is a sweet slicer. It just plain cuts. I do wish there was a version without the recurve. It cuts very well, but does make it a bit less useful for push cutting, ie general camp and kitchen food prep.

The two you have on order are really fantastic though. Great color combo and should be a perfect pairing.

Welcome Ken...Like you I had reservations however I was fortunate to receive my first INFI as a gift. I had no idea of the quality until I took
it out behind the shed and beat it mercilessly.....or so I thought.... I was working on some Hard seasoned Pecan...The donor told me to whip
it..whip it good I have to say that I was Impressed to say the least!!! I had to find out more and logged in here to find all these well informed
HOGS/Piglets who are ready to help with identity specs and personal experiences invaluable information...as Andy pointed out you will form your
own opinions as we all have...so enjoy the fun and hope you return with photos of a well loved and beaten piece of INFI....

Welcome, my story is very similar to yours!! I love my TGLB and have literally beat the crap out of it and the blade is still as sharp as the day Beef sharpened it. My only bad experience (which actually turned positive) about a month ago I carried the TGLB with me on a two day ATV excursion as I always do. At the start of the excursion I got so many,"why the hell are you carrying that machete" and I always give my typical answer, just in case! Well it did get some heavy use. When i got home I was so tired I went straight to bed and completly forgot to clean and oil the knife until it suddenly dawned on me the next weekend. Bam too late it had a little oxidation already, but hey turns out I like it, gives it a little character! Mine is the competition finish so I'm sure with a scotch pad and a little elbow grease it would be just like new, but I don't really care. At least people know it's not a safe queen.

Again welcome
