I'm having a hard time:) I've been trying to find a verson of Tom Brown Jr.'s tracker(1095carbon) that is custom made out of something like s30v. Beck is a collectors item now, so that's out of the question. Mark Terrell made a verson called the WSK(d2 or s30v) which is perfect, but he doesn't look like he's making anything right now. There's also a verson from red scorpion that's made out of 440c.

As far as the style.. it's pretty much what I'ld like. One time in a survival situation for my friend, I had to make a raft out of a pine tree with nothing but my bowie(lucky I had rope). This knife would have helped out without having to randomly carry around a hatchet. I also carry around a smaller knife for skinning and smaller stuff, I do realize not all knives do everything, however it suits my fancy.

I'm very open to suggestions for alternative knives, but again, it's what I'm looking for(fixed balde, long self cleaning serrated back, horizontal carry for the small of my back). Because I'm having such a difficult problem finding someone who is already making it, is there anyone out there who is interested in making a knife like this out of s30v for me?

Try him:

www.schanz-messer.de

He makes WSK from D2 or carbon steel or his specific SB1.

Gentle and patient guy, one of Germanys best custom knife makers IMHO.

His Tracker was reviewed comparing to the TOPS at the actual knife magazin here. His saw really cuts!

thank you guys.. the links were very helpful.. I have a couple of different directions to move in now!

For Custom work you should check out the following guys. They all do amazing work.
Tim Horan, Jurgen Schanz, Mark Terrill, Roger Linger and Dan Koster.
If you are going custom route these are the best makers.

S30v although a good steel, but Why are you insisting on that type? What elements are you looking for in S30v? I have been asked by many to make our Predator WSK in this type of steel but can not see the benefit for the cost.

Sorry, that picture was a bit much for this forum. We can't have the members' poor weak brains getting overheated....

Cougar,

A girl in bikini is too much for this audience? You gotta be kidding kind of insulting your customer base calling them "poor weak brains". BTW I have seen worse on here, lol

Actually the poor weak brains Cougar is referring to might be the kids who would frequent the "General" area of this forum. And again your picture is inappropriate for this forum. Please edit..

ok i will.
but there is worse on this site and tv. but I will concede to anyone who is from
DILL DOUGH, USA. (Now that is appropriate)

you can't have manslaughter without laughter?? What are you teaching our youth with such a statement.

Are you sure you want to take a shot at inappropriate. Perhaps you should tighten up your shot group before attempting an on the spot correction.
But I will take mine down.
lol

Not trying to hijack the post. It is down.

and you are correct my signatures are also not family friendly that is why if you do a search of this forum you will find I rarely post here. if you want ,buy a membership here and go to whine and Cheeze where I live...most of the time..Rarely here..and besides they are not MY rules they are the owner of this forum..

BTW welcome..

I like s30v for the retaining the edge and being stainless.. I've used it in the past and liked it.. should I be looking for something else like O1? Any suggestions?

Calrizian,

I am just asking if there is particular reason. I have had a lot of guys request this type of steel but most were requesting more from a "designer" reason than factual. It will raise your production costs vs. an O1 carbon steel or even a 440 steel.
It does have great properties but I am curious if there is a particular application that this exceeds in, that is major advantage over the 440 or the O1. It will retain an edge, but it is also harder to get it there, and if one will need to field sharpen be prepared to invest the time and effort so you should include a professional sharpening system in your gear.

I just can't see it. If someone knows please let me know if I have missed the boat on this one. The tolerance sheet and strength sheets do not show any major advantages for cost increase justification. I realize the mixture is more acurate and consistant throughout piece. Please advise if I am missing something.

Thanks
Aaron

Check out this SIC version by Mike Billman.. He can make that design for you. He also does a lot of reprofiling of TOPS Trackers for folks.

I still make the WSK's, I'm just not taking orders for them. There's already too many people on the list, and I make them in runs.
