I don't quite know how put this, but I am really interested in having a custom slipjoint made for me, I have several designs that I really like but it seems that all the quailty makers have extreme prices and a very long waiting list.. are there any great knife makers out there who can do 2 blade slipjoints for around the (Max) $250 mark - or something with wood scales around the same price?

I'm hoping all you great BFmembers can chime in and give a younger enthusiast some direction! and maybe some of the makers who frequent can shout their names out, feel welcome!!

Thanks for all the good information as usual everybody

I would be very surprised if you could find a custom maker who could afford to make you a 2-blade knife for that price. My impression is that it is a matter of simple economics - there is a fair bit of time involved and a good knife maker deserves reasonable compensation for that time. It would be great if someone could do it, though.

If the full custom doesn't work out, you could consider a less common production knife with features that are often found on a custom. A couple that come to mind are A.G. Russell's pinched peanut and dogleg trapper. They feature a very good quality steel (VG-10, which isn't found on production slipjoints) and very nice scales, such as woolly mammoth ivory on the pinched peanut. The Case/Bose limited edition knives can sometimes be found in your price range and folks have said they are very high quality.

You could also peruse the websites of custom knife sellers. Arizona Custom Knives is one that I like to look through, but there are others. That would give you an idea of what prices you can realistically expect. Keeping an eye on the custom knives for sale section here on the forums is another possibility.

Good luck with your search.

I would contact Gene Wiseman, found in the exchange forum under the username of genewiseman.
His quality and pricing structure are the closest that I'm aware of to your desires.

Bear in mind that these artisans command the price they do because they have earned it. Look at the threads collecting their knives and you will see the quality of their work. That those who take orders have wait extensive wait times shows how much in demand their pieces are.
