Hi all!

I have decided to get a Buck knife for myself as Christmas present. I haven't had Buck knife yet but I've heard good things about them.

I originally though Buck 55 the mini hunter, but for EDC knife with lockback might be considered a... provocative in office environment so I am now looking a buck traditional slipjoints

A 301 Stockman and a 303 Cadet look very promising for EDC carry among Sheeples. Both are priced $20-$30 so they are not expensive. A 309 Companion looks very nice too.

They all fit in size I am looking 3"-4" closed. No locks, reputable maker (and I am looking USA made Buck) and what I've read from these forums Bucks 420HC is good steel, not a super steel but good for EDC job.

I would use this Buck for EDC rotation with my Case Peanut, Case Medium Stockman (which my brother still haven't mailed me yet) and upcomming Case Texas Jack.

Any opinions, recomendations, insights and pictures of USA made 300-series Buck knives are more than welcomed.

I've recently added a 301 and 303 to my EDC lineup and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like both knives (knife steel and scale material notwithstanding).
(They are perfect foul weather and rough use knives.)

I don't think you'd be disappointed and at the price point there is very little risk of downside.

I am now looking a buck traditional slipjoints ... A 309 Companion looks very nice too.

I worked in a very formal, button-down office environment for 5 years (the horror, the horror), and for much of that, toted a Buck 709, which is pretty much the same size and layout as the 309. I can heartily recommend that size and blade assortment for office carry. Handled everything I needed it to do, just disappears in your pocket, and never raised an eyebrow.

These days you can get one in black delrin or the new Dymondwood version. If you don't mind bidding on a very popular online auction site that rhymes with flea-bay, you might find one of the bone-handled versions that they have put out from time to time.

Thanks all, I know site you're referring mnblade, there are nice Dymonwood one's in sale there. 303's are quite affordable. Heck I might next year get few other 300-series Buck's if I like one I buy now.

I am kinda leaning the slightly smaller 303 Cadet. 301, 303, and 309 all look nice and would make nice additions to my collection for EDC rotation with Case knives.

Geez, Let me think, can I recommend a Buck knife to someone, the decisions the decisions.............................................................................

Cut the chase, start with 303 or if you want one closer to your Case Peanut a 309. Three blade or two blade your call. Both fit in the watch pocket of jeans with watch pockets.

I like the light colored -grey or is it gray- scaled Dymondwood over the darker scale. You will have to go somewhere to pick it out special as most you 'mail-order' come dark.
The Dymondwoods are nickle-silver bolsters and liners. The sawcut poly scale classic is all Stainless steel. There is a new Cherry colored laminated wood scale coming to stores as we speak. And I hear echos of another type of scale to be out soon.

My opinion, get the classic sawcut, black poly scale, stainless steel bolsters and liners and the scale emblem of the classic knife, bolt and hammer. Start with the long proven, classic American icon and then get another in something else later.

If you are a auction person you can go back to the earlier models easily stag,yellow,red,buffalo,pearl......your call and effort.

Sawcut for me will always be "The" classic Buck slipjoint.
300Bucks

I can highly recommend the Cadet. Perfect size for me.

Alright, I probably get Cadet first (will see if there are any dymondwood versions left by the time I make the order or do I have to settle for pure plastic ones ). Cadet seems to be very good. Slightly bigger than Peanut but still enough small to be in EDC.

After that, 301 Stockman...

i use to carry a buck 303 about 10 yrs ago. i still have it somewhere. great little knife.

Ya can't go wrong with any of the 300 series, they have proven themselves over the years but don't just limit yourself to Bucks, Queen, Northwoods and Moore Maker all make quality knives.

What he said! But also don't forget the old USA Schrade lineup. All good stuff.

I am not limiting myself. I've tried to look queen's knife but my sources to get stuff from the states are pretty limited and a certain auction side has very few queen knives atm for selling and only ones that are with international shipping cost ridiciously or are Sodbuster model ( I might get later Queen Sodbuster though ) Some shops have decent prices but I am process of mailing them for shipping prices.

Northwoods and Moore Maker I should check. Are there any other knife manufacturer in traditional line that I should check?
