My WalMart tomahawk has finally bit the dust, too many chips in the blade, and the handle has broken in half. I'm now looking for a tomahawk for camping, yard work, basic abuse. Let it hang in a shed all winter, or with my camping gear. I've been to American Tomahawks website and like their more traditional designs, I like two of Cold Steels tomahawk designs, should I check anywhere else? I'm looking for something small and that can take a beating, not really interested in anything ceremonial etc. I've done a little bit of research. Looking to spend no more than a hundred bucks. May be an end of summer purchase. Thanks in advance.

I am very surprised at the abuse my Cold Steel hawk has taken. I believe it's the Riflemans Hawk model. The Taiwan stamp on the head made me cringe, and the head was loose until I fixed it. But it has chopped and been thrown etc. and other than looking a little beat up, it's still good to go. For a better made hawk of much higher quality, I would definitely go the ATC route.

Any particular model to go for, or just one that catches my eye? I was interested in the Riflemans hawk, but I never had the chance to handle one.

Yeah I would say whichever one you like the best. If the spike is not for you, I know they have turned out versions of their hawks with hammer polls too. Andy Prisco is a cool guy and will help answer all your questions on the ATC line and help you get the right hawk. Hope this helps :)

Took a look at the Buck Camp Axe, not pretty, but then I'm not looking for that. Good price. Maybe for the truck or the shed. I'm gonna go bug the crap out of the guys at ATC. Thanks gentlemen!

Oh yeah, gonna stop at REI and Dicks sporting goods on the way home to see if they have the Buck.
