Looking at first auto

Starting July 1 it will be legal for anyone to carry an auto in Kansas (previously it was LEO and active duty only) so I'm trying to narrow it down. My local gun shop has 3 NIB 6150s and asking $226. Not crazy about serrations but otherwise I love the knife. Also interested in the Rift. Any feedback on these two knives as choices for auto?Whatever I get I will carry regularly (though my Grip will still be primary for work).

Thanks for any feedback.

The 6150 is a large knife, nice as is; I prefer the smaller set, my favorite auto is the 3550. Take a look, it's a good one.

I just picked up a 5000. Like it so far although I can't carry it here =\

Waving any of the non auto versions of those knives will be cheaper and they'll open faster :) if you're set on an auto though, I love my 2750. It's a tank of a knife and just looks cool. I've also messed around with the presidio auto, not sure of the model #, but that knife seemed pretty solid as well

Two things you said made me think: First, am I buying an auto just because I can or because it adds something (not that "just because" is necessarily bad). In most cases for me, the speed or ease in deployment isn't really a factor.

The second thing you mentioned is what really has me thinking though. I've been thinking about getting an Adamas for a while now but hadn't thought about the auto because I couldn't before. It certainly wasn't my first thought for my first auto but it may be near the top of the list now.

The 2750 was my first auto and I have to say I'm very impressed. It opens hard! It's jumped out of a few hands when I was showing it to co workers. Almost claimed a toe :) I carry it at work in my back right pocket and it carries great fwiw

The only reason I mentioned the speed is some people think that autos are so crazy fast they are the be all end all. In some cases they are way over priced for what you get. Maybe I'm just on a wave kick ha

When I asked in the Auto section here whether or not there was any real advantage to an auto over a good spring assist mechanism knife such as the Axis Assist Benchmades the consensus was that the auto had no advantages. Plus no matter how legal at the state level there are still the Federal rules which forbid USPS shipping etc. Also the manufacturer policies which, due to federal regulations, require warranty returns to be through a dealer except for LEOs and active duty military.

Due to the federal BS there are still too many hassles involved in auto carry even if now legal at the state level for it to be attractive to me.
