Hey guys! Bought my first Levi’s denim jacket in the 70’s got 30 plus years out of it with lady friends patching holes & tears hippie/biker style! Bought a Cabela’s one and it’s about gone after 10 years. No hippie patching ! I like the cut of the original Levi brand ones.

I’m not crawling under vehicles , making knives or doing a 1/3rd of the wild stuff anymore but would like to hear from all that sport a Denim jacket. What kind you are happy with? No poll here just opinions please. Thanks!

I have worn an insulated Wrangler jean jacket for years and love it. I’ve tried Levi’s but I like the cut and the feel of the Wranglers better. I also like the number sizing better than letter sizing because it tends to fit me better.

Go on Ebay and get a vintage one in good condition.
JC Penny's plain pockets from the 70's are great quality and an excellent value, but you can get vintage Wranglers or Lee too ( yes Levi's too if you care for the company)
Of course if it has to be brand new I don't know, all the main brands everybody knows are imported now and made for fashion before durability.

Diamond gussett has one and their stuff is good quality in my experience, but to DG a size 40 jacket is considered a small so they might not have your size.
it's worth looking into though if you're looking for a jacket made by a manufacturer who mostly focuses on durable working denim.

There's a lot of premium expensive stuff out there that I'm sure is good quality, but few people buy that stuff to beat up.

Why do you not like Levi Strauss?

I don't like the company for political differences, but I also just never had good luck with their pants as a teenager and wouldn't buy a Levi's jacket off of Ebay because of the collectors premium.
I’m curious what political differences are so severe with the company that was the first to made Denim work pants for San Francisco & California gold miners?

Their history is irrelevant because they're just a name now, a name owned by people who feel the need to associate the brand with various sociopolitical issues which I happen to disagree with.
This isn't the place to get political but let's just say they're another casualty of " wokeness " and leave it at that.

if I had to buy a new affordably priced imported denim jacket today I might try a Lee because I bought a flannel lined Wranglers a few years ago and the the cut in my tag size didn't fit me well, but your mileage may vary.

Thanks, That is why I was curious. Haven’t followed the marketing for Levi Strauss in 35 plus years! The company was started 1849 ish by two immigrant Jewish men. One a tent maker & the other invented the shotgun shell buttons they went into biz to make strong pants for the Miners etc that wouldn’t split out. In the 1990’s when the company moved overseas they did the ethical thing & gave all of their employees big payouts!
I’ll take a look at Lee.

They're still owned by members of the family actually, but of course now one side has found a way to stake claim on most things cultural in America and the fashion industry is very vulnerable.
Back in the 90's when they had shut down companies didn't feel as much pressure to support the required sociopolitical issues, I'm not surprised that they did the right thing with their employees ( aside from going overseas in the 1st place ).
It's a shame that few companies can simply just sell products anymore.

Hopefully you find a reasonably priced decent quality denim jacket that's well fitting and still comfortable.

Unlined or blanket lined ya see Wrangler around here. But kinda rare as the Levi Sherpa is what ya see a lot of. Folks here don't really have a need for an unlined jacket. When ya need a jacket up here ya tend to need a lined one. In fact if ya look close our friend Misty here has another jacket under this Wrangler jacket.

Where most folks would wear an unlined jacket we wear insulated vests:

Sherpa lined and I don't know if ya need that kind of warmth down the hill or not, but its Levi:

Probably won't wear mine out in my lifetime and I do wear it in the shop too:

These are often referred to as "Cowboy Tuxedos or Canadian Tuxedos". I was at a branding a few years ago. It was early morning and a lil cool as we were getting set up. Total of 12 cowboy/cowboygirls at this deal. Ten of the 12 were wearing Levi Sherpa jackets. The other two were in vests.

It really isn’t that cold down here at the Coast except in Jan/Feb & I own plenty of Carhart vests & others. That Levi Sherpa is handsome looking. Thanks!

Wranglers has them as well, and the Lee stormrider is one of the most well known.

I like the wranglers because they have more sherpa in them.
This is one of the last examples made in the USA in the late 80's, but quality today is the same .

I really like this blanket lined big Smith with corduroy trim, but Big Smith doesn't seem to exist anymore.

The only thing I don't like is the more generous poorly fitting modern cut.

These vintage JCP plain pockets have a much better fit which I liked so much that I scored both a flannel lined then an unlined for when I barely need a jacket.

They're all comfortable though, and the fit only matters if you care.
