i'm looking at getting a new EDC knife as i'm not exactly happy with my spyderco in vg-10 (vg10 doesnt hold up well for my uses sadly), i'm looking at a blur in burnt orange in cpm 154 or a JYD2 composite blade, which is better for fairly tough use? the knife very well may contact dirt/sand, lots of wood, zip ties, an odd piece of wire here and there maybe, lots of card board and lots of plants and cutting plant pots open (i live on a farm and need a tough knife) my vg10 knife tends to chip/micro chip more than i like and dulls fairly fast mainly on impacts (i chop veggies for my poultry on a piece of wood and it tends to roll or micro chip on impact if i strike too hard, also if the card board is fairly thick it will roll while push cutting it)

i like the sprint run thing and the blur becoming rare, also a big fan of ats-34 and 154cm (have a old gerber in ats-34 reprofiled to 10 per side and it has never chipped and stays sharp forever lol) but i kinda worried about the blurs blade being thin, i dropped my old tanto blur on a large rock and the blade tip broke off so far down i couldnt fix it with a stone :(

so what do you guys think, JYD2 or burnt orange blur??

i have a keshaw barrage(now the salvo) that i use for a beater. it's got the 14c28n and is pretty darn tough! keeps a good edge too! haven't owned the two you are speaking of so i really can't recommend either, but the salvo is cheaper and would probably serve your purpose well. i do like the looks of the JYD and blur though!

Have you considered a kershaw fixed blade? They make a couple of pretty inexpensive hunting knives.

getting a fixed blade would probably be the best choice. longer and thicker blade, especially for cutting veggies and larger stuff. the reason i recommended the 14c28n is that its not quite as hard, yet keeps a good egde= less chipping.

i would but in CA i cant legally carry a fix blade well. i havent used 14c28n my old blur in sadivik 13c26 seemed to be kinda chippy tho

I can't comment in the Kershaw knives with 154 as I don't own any.

However, I have a JYDII comp blade and use it as a work knife in my construction duties. I use it to cut fiberglass strapping tape, cut open shipping boxes, cut down the boxes for disposal, opening packaging, cutting wood molding, and on an one. It is a tough knife to beat for work, and I have a few. The D2 is great. And with some bit of sharpening experience it isn't nearly as hard as you read to sharpen.

But I do have a Blur in 420HC. I like this knife a lot. No, it doesn't hold an edge as long as the D2, but you can sharpen it on anything and it will take a really sharp edge. Also, due to its hollow grind and thinner edge, while it is a bit more fragile that the JYDII, this geometry makes it one helluva slicer. It is a thinner, lighter weight knife than the JYDII, but that doesn't sell it short as a work knife.
I think it would be hell on wheels in 154.

So, JYDII for all around tough steel and heavy construction, and Blur for an lighter, easier to sharpen knife that will take a screaming edge.

As always, just my 0.02.

pulled the trigger on a cpm-154 blur in burnt orange at knife works, cant wait tell it gets here!!

Hi kimberfan, I also have a burnt orange blur in cpm 154cm that chipped opening some boxes and zip ties but overall the knife is great and feels great in hand. Super fun to deploy. But the chipping might have been just a one time thing as after I sharpened it the blur hasn't chipped since. YMMV.

just arrived this week, great knife
