I like the design of these knives and am looking to add one to the collection.

I don't know anythting about the good makers of these knives and those to avoid. Looking to first get a user and prefer a wooden handled/leather sheathed model.

Suggestions?

Marttiini, Brusletto, and Roselli are good names to start with. Check out Kellam knives, lots of choices there.

I really like Roselli knives. The "Carpenter´s Knife" in particular has been one of my favorite fixed blades over the years. The fit and finish is pretty rough, but they're great user knives.

You probably can't go wrong with any of the well known Scandinavian makers.

The first knife I ever bought over the Internet was a Helle "Polar" (now discontinued) from Ragnar about 8 years ago. I still enjoy the knife and Ragweed Forge is always a pleasure to deal with.

I got mine at Kellam knives. It was made by AK, and is the best darn knife I have ever had.

I second the RagweedForge recommendation. Ragnar is one of the best. Been dealing with him for about 5 years. Super guy, VERY helpful. (no, I'm not related, and have no stock in his business.)

Marttiini, Roselli and such are large, factory knife-makers. The quality of their products, as compared to hand-made puukkos, is at best adequate and sometimes quite questionable. Compared to some "tacticool knife-like objects", though, they are excellent tools (not intended for "silent kills"). I don't know how available they are in the USA or elsewhere outside the North, but hand-made puukkos, usually of silvery steel, are absolutely marvelous for wood-working and anything a knife needs to be used in the woods. The best part is that they're not outrageously expensive, either, unless of course one picks decorative koristepuukkos.

My AK was made by AK, and I purchased it about 5 yrs. ago. It cost about $350.00 and is one fantastic knife. I dont know if the AK line is made by AK himself. As a matter of fact I heard that he stopped making knives about 4 yrs ago due to damage to his arms and elbows.
