Looking at several choices for edc

Well I got an esee 3 and it's too large to comfortably edc.
The blade rusts very quickly as i sweat a whole lot so I might be looki mg at something at least semi stainless but I'm not sure yet

I Know this isn't primarily a becker post, but I've posted this on general discussion and I didn't get many answers. Whenever I post on here you guys are very quick to respond. Sorry, if this isn't allowed please move the thread.

Narrowed it down :
Let me know of you have used any of these knives for edc(small bushcraft chores, self defence in In a pinch, feather sticks, cutting boxes and whatnot )

Spyderco street beat lightweight

Izula 2

Bk24

benchmade steep country

Tops delta unit 3 [emoji16]
(if anyone has experience with the tops let me know)

Thanks !!

I don't have any of these, but I do have the bk11. I can tell you that the blade shape and edge geometry and overall size make it a perfect edc knife, so I'd recommend the bk24. D2 is nice steel.

I like the BK24...but it isn't a whole lot smaller than the Esee 3. (It is, but it isn't) Also, you'll probably want to put handles on it (not a big deal).
I'll look up your other thread for nonBecker recommendations.

I have EDC carried the BK14 and the Esee Izula (not the 2) and while the Izula was easier to carry the BK14 had a far more useful blade for my needs. I also have a Street Beat (not the LW although they actually weigh the same) and it is very nice. If corrosion resistance is what you want then VG10 is certainly that. I still carry my BK14 way more often. I do not have the other two knives you mentioned so I say out of your list I would get the BK24.

The 24 would be a great choice. The Steep Country is a tad on the small side, handle-wise....but it's a nice knife - though much more $$ than the 24. I hear you on the sudoriferous-ness, bud. I live in NH and wear shorts anytime it goes over 40° or I'm sweating. I wouldn't worry too much about carbon steel; even neck carried you're not likely to do a lot of damage as the uncoated part of the blade is in the sheath. I regularly carry an 11 on my belt cross draw (front scout?) and so far no issues. Nice thing about EDC is the blade is out and used regularly, so you'd notice if there were any corrosion starting and could nip it in the bud. I have more problems with my blades that sit around in the salt air (I live on a saltwater tidal estuary) that I only check on occasionally. I really like the 11 for EDC - it has a lot of utility (opened a couple beers for me tonight) and is a good size if you don't wear XL mittens. Same blade size/shape as the 14/24 but less handle and a bottle opener. Comfy with some add on Micarta or wood scales. Izula 2 is the same handle as the 14/24, slightly smaller blade. Of course, it does come in a stainless version, so there's that. In that size range there is also the DPx H.E.S.T. in Niolox stainless - great knife but also a bit pricey. I have one in Rowen 1095 that is a fantastic EDC blade. OK, I'll shut up now. Good luck with your search - but as a heavy perspirer myself, I wouldn't worry too much about 1095CV (or other carbon steels).....

I carry a BK-14 every time I head into the woods, hunting, hiking or fishing. This knife sees rain, snow, sweat and blood on a Regular basis. The only rusting I've ever had was when it was misplaced and spent a few says outside until I could return for it. The uncoated edge was rusty, but a few swipes from a diamond stone brought it back to a nice shiny sharp bladed. The Becker coating does a great job against rust, you just need to wipe down the cutting edge from time to time.

With the street beat, what do you use it for while carrying it? I know it was built primarily for SD but I would use it for many other things as well..how would it hold up in a camp setting ?

How is the ESEE 3 too big for EDC? It can be easily and effectively EDCed in board shorts...

Lots of sweat can be fixed by oiling your knife more. Ka-Bar's 1095CV does seem slightly more corrosion resistant than regular 1095.

The BK14/24 is a great size for EDC. Neck, wallet, belt (vertical or horizontal(; it seems to fit well however carried. Great blade shape and, not to use the over-used phrase of our POTUS, it punches above its weight.

I carried an izula2 for a while and found it to have too much belly for edc, at least for what I do... Opening boxes, letters, packages, that sort of thing. It was a little difficult to effectively use the point. For field chores the shape is better.

The izula 2 and esse 3 have almost the same size handle. Get the normal izula and don't use the scales.

Regular EDC stuff like opening boxes/packages and a little food prep at lunch. I am in the wrong forum to say this but they are both ground a little thick for my tastes as EDC blades. They both are ground from thick stock and both come with thick bevels so in general cutting performance is similar. The Street Beat has a pointier tip which is nice for EDC but I prefer the BK14's blade shape most of the time. I just love drop points in general. For any game processing or camp work I would largely favor the BK14. The Street Beat with micarta like mine is dead sexy but also way more expensive. The forward finger choil on the Street Beat makes for a strong purchase so you don't lose it in a SD scenario but for harder use and carving I prefer the handle on the BK14 and mine is just paracord wrapped. I don't plan on selling either one but I carry the BK14 more. I do a bit of backpacking and I never bring the Street Beat if that tells you what I think of it as a woods knife. I guess for EDC it is a toss up but for camp uses it would be the BK14 all day long. They are both very sturdy knives but obviously 1095 at 56-58 should be tougher than vg10 a couple points higher. I wouldn't expect either one to break or sustain much damage though.

Alright ! I think I am going to go ahead and get the Street beat (but who knows my mind changes every 5 min lol ), I have an esee 3 and that would cover almost all of my bushcraft or camp needs.

Just a heads up, people seem to either love or hate the handle on the Street Beat. It is unique.

Here is lousy pic.

How have you liked the handle?
Compared to the izula, which do you prefer for edc? I'm deciding between the izula and the spyderco now [emoji16]
Any thing that would make me want to have the spyderco over the izula?

Well I have had the BK14 for years and only had the Street Beat for months and during that time I have used my Bk14 for everything imaginable and I have only used the Street Beat for light duty EDC chores so it is hard to make a fair comparison. I haven't used the Izula much but it has the same handle as the BK14. This is just speculation but I would imagine that during any sort of extended cutting chores or during any heavy cutting that I would quickly favor the BK14. We all have different hands so just like handguns giving advice on grips is difficult. I wear a size large glove and have maybe kind of thin fingers and the BK14 has always felt amazing in my hand. I will give the disclaimer that I am a hard core Spyderco addict and often buy them just because I cannot resist. I recently wandered into this forum though and that was to thank Ethan for maybe making the best all purpose knife I have ever put in my pocket. The choice here is pretty subjective but I prefer the BK14.

I know its not on your list, but how about the BK13 to go smaller?

I have the 24 and it is easy to EDC.

I was thinking the 13 would be too small :/

How easy has is been for you to sharpen the d2 ?
How long does the edge last for you?

I had a Benchmade Adamas in D2 for almost a year of EDC, that D2 was really easy to sharpen, and while it didn't keep a razor edge very long, it kept a working edge for a reasonable amount of time, just about on par with the 154cm also from BM.
