New member here, been carrying folders off/on (on for good now!) since i was about 5!Just picked up a new Delica 4 to replace a beat up M-16 folder,LOVE the Spyderco!Needing a quality fixed blade for my B.O.B here in CT i really like the ESEE 3!How do you that own these ESEE's like them?

I really like the 3. Its almost weightless and slices like a demon. You might want a little bit bigger and thicker blade for a BOB though. I would suggest the 4 or even a 6. I wouldn't want the 3 to be my only knife due to its thin stock and small cutting edge.

I wouldn't mind a little bigger,but i need something with a blade no bigger than 4".

If you're actually in Connecticut, the law states the the edged portion of the blade needs to be less than 4" for legal carry. Just a heads up.

I run a Spyderco Endura 4 and Fallkniven F1 in the bag. I EDC a Spyderco Tenacious and an ESEE 3.

Here's a size comparison; -6, -4, and -3MIL:

the 3 is a very serviceable blade.
1/8" thick at the spine, so thin enough to be a good slicer, but strong enough to handle some lateral stress without breaking.
if you find the handle a bit short, check "the knife connection" for their aftermarket G10 scales -- adds about 1/2" to the overall length and a little thickness in the hand.

I love my ESEE-3. In fact, I have two of them. I could recommend the ESEE-4 as well.

I've been looking at the one in OD green/orange g10. Personally I prefer the black over the tan myself of your two choices.

I went tan, but frankly I don't much care for coated blades in general. I plan on stripping and forcing a patina soon.

I have a tan 3 that I stripped. The canvas micarta is great, and cutting performance is improved by removing the coating (though it's more susceptible to corrosion now)

No offense but if you can't get it done with a 3 you should go home or skip the 6 and go straight to the machete/junglas/axe. The biggest fixed blade I own is an Izula 2.

Definitely go with the ESEE-4... I LOVE that knife! With a lanyard wrapped around the back of your hand and thumb, it makes a great little chopper. The little bit of of added blade length and weight makes a big difference to me. I don't care what color it is, but I prefer the Micarta scales. I also recommend getting the optional boot clip for convenient and discrete belt carry.

The ESEE 3 is an awesome knife. It handled any task I tried it for on my treks/hikes, and I never felt the need of anything bigger, stronger, lighter, or else.
Just don't leave it in the bag all the time...it might get sad. It was born and raised to breathe fresh air :)

I love ESEE. I have the ESEE 6 in my BOB but I live in Florida and we can carry any size we want, but if you are looking for a top quality small blade that is a little bit better overall (toughness, time in between sharpeing, price, etc) than the ESEE 3 I would suggest the Swamp warden or Scrapivore. There are lots of comparison reviews to help complicate your decision process. Sorry:)
*this is just my opinion not scientific fact.
