I remember my first spyderco, it wasnt that long ago actually. Only 2013.... Anywho, I swung by a local dealer and all i knew was i wanted a quality knife for work related use. My previous knife endeavors were the typical kershaw, buck, CRKT etc. I was prepared to really up the budget to somewhere around the $80 mark. I went in and the owner of the shop pulled out a military from the case he went on and on about the S30v steel and the g10 and spyderco in general. I had no idea what he was talking about with the steel, i never really knew anything about the steel of any knife or much about how it mattered, or g10. The g10 felt great, as did the knife itself. It was price at roughly $170, which is more than i can get for even right now.
But the guy was right about a lot of stuff he was talking about the particular knife and the brand in general. Yes he was selling, but they were not lies and i was not let down in the slightest. Sure it was price more along MAP levels, which i think they have relaxed upon that some now; ill have to check next time in there for some of my other purchases. The place has a certain fondness for me because of that. That was my first nice knife and it got me into all sorts of knives, a whole new world and it will be tough to go back. Also led me here and i think i traded it off here so its been in the back of my mind for replacement.
I know the PM2 has quite the following so ill have to hold one of those and see. The military was a large folder but it seemed to me it was as large as it had to be, it didnt strike me in anyway that any of the size it had was there to just be a big folder. I've stayed mainly with spyderco because of the designs that come out and all the different choices of blade steel. I dont want all my knives to be s30v. I like it but i like to see how other steels act for me.
