I hope I've posted this in the right forum, I'm kind of new around here....

I recently lost my Benchmade EDC of 10 years and was looking for a replacement when I found this funny looking knife with hole in the blade for well under $100.00 at a local gun shop. It wasn't until I got home and looked it up that I find out that it was a limited run Spyderco Worker G-10. Well that revelation made it too valuable for EDC so I started looking for something more expendable. That was two months ago, 2 Dragonfly2's and a Native5 Forum knife that I also probably won't carry so now I'm thinking that I need a Delica for work!

This is nuts, I think I need an intervention!

By the way, the Dragonfly2 FRN with the ZDP 189 blade is my absolute favorite knife of all time and I panic when it isn't in my pocket.

Lol.. Welcome..

My name is Troy and I'm a knife-aholic..

You have it easy.. Wait till you think you need one of each, in the ZDP blade steel or a certain handle color. Then you like a different model and need a couple...

It's GGGRRREAAATTT! ;)

Mines, Foliage Green sprint run models.. This is just what I choose from daily.. More then you can see, in there.. Hehe..

My name is Jay, and I'm a knifeaholic. And a flashaholic. Yes, I collect flashlights, too.

I don't know if you ever seen the movie "Stuart Smalley Saves His Family", but it is hilarious. Although someone that has never experienced anything themselves, or in their own family, that relates to some of these issues, might not "get it". There a hilarious point in the film where Stuart stands up in one of the 12-step meetings, and says: "My name is Stuart Smalley. And I'm addicted to 12-step programs."

Welcome to BF :)
Grasshopper, you have barely begun.
Once you have a bunch more, you will realize you need some custom scales for a few of them.

Do you have adequate sharpening equipment?

You're just going to have to let the addiction run its course friend. Don't resist, just go with it.
It's fun!

You're doomed. Accept the awesome, and move forwards. That's the only cure, though you'll find that you'll be continually plagued with EWS (Empty Wallet Syndrome).

Welcome. Most of us here have a stash of those little red and black boxes.

It's probably best at this point to sit down and crunch the numbers about how much hush money your wife will need to look the other way while you buy more Spydercos.

your wife will need to look the other way .

Fat chance of that happening! But that's what so cool, unlike fishing rods I can sneak these into the house in my pocket.

But thanks everyone for the greetings, I think I am going to like this place.

I have a new philosophy regarding knife purchases - I am only borrowing them for a while :D

(THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT APPLY TO FULL-FLEDGED KNIFE COLLECTORS!)

Say - you buy a new Spyderco - you use it for 6 months to a year or more but take care of it by keeping it clean and sharp - still it is a good user for you. After a bit you decide you need another knife - Spyderco or otherwise - just something a bit longer or a different color/handle material or a different steel for a change. You sell the "old" one on the exchange. If you haven't beaten it up and you still have the box - you can likely sell it for a reasonable loss (read - user fee). 30% less than you paid for it seems typical but this can vary considerably. In some cases only the cost of S&H and PP fees and in some cases you actually break even. Certain knives allow you to make a profit - if very lightly used and kept beyond the ready availability of other such knives.

Using this philosophy I can buy a $ 600.00 knife thinking that if I don't decide to keep it - will ultimately cost me from $30.00 to $100.00 as a user's fee. A $150.00 Spyderco will likely cost me $ 60.00. In any case as soon as you buy a new knife it costs you to resell so enjoy for a while. Figure out what you like and don't like and then try something new.

eak3 Enjoy it - because you really have just begun :D. Come up with your own rational and then don't look back only forward to the tip...

Welcome to the forum EAK :D My 12 step program has kept growing, and growing, and growing. I've only purchased 4 Spydies this month with the S110v Para 2 in the mail. I didn't get one of these on the initial release. Wait til you get the Para 2, you're not gonna believe it. You'll find we are quite the enablers. Oh, I collect rods and reels as well, and all these get used at some point. Enjoy the insanity. :)

If you find the wife is getting upset, get her a purple dragonfly for the purse, works for me....and her. Her favorite is the cf Damascus Caly 3 with bolsters. She loves "her" Caly.

I've been recently bitten by the bug too. I've bought a Delica, Dragonfly, & Persistence in the past few weeks. A friend's sending a couple of Sages & a Manix 2 for me to test drive. The wish list is growing quickly! Help!!!...

This is exactly how I navigate my knife habit these days. Settle in and enjoy the ride!!

Welcome. You are not alone. I bought a pm2 about a month ago, and now have 5, plus 15 others with 6 more on the way. At this point Sal could make a ketchup bottle with a hap40 lid and a spyderco logo and I would buy it. Good luck.

It's a hopeless addiction but a wonderful one. After not really understanding the appeal of Spyderco, I bought my first one (an Endura). I then understood and proceeded to buy 6 more in the next two months (Native 5, Dragon Fly 2, Chaparral, Para Military 2, Caly 3, and a Positron). I've managed to slow the rate or purchases down but it's only a matter of time before I add more (minuteman, sage 1 & 2, mantra, just to name a few). Just accept it and go with the flow.

My wife started my Spyderco collection.. Christmas of 13' got me the FRN Dragonfly 2.. First thing out of my mouth, was "you made a Horrible mistake". She asked why and I told her "I stayed away from Spyderco for many years, because i knew i wanted lots and cost"..
Then I bought a Millie and a Matriarch 2.. Lol..
Christmas of 14', she got me the Foilage Green Dragonfly 2..
Which started a whole down hill slide, in the wallet!
The other 2 dozen have been bought since.. Most of them, in the pic, in the last 8-9 months, since joining BF... Muuwaahahaha...
But she got me a Chaparral this year and my 6yr old daughter got me a Cat. ;)

The sickness continues!
