I'm looking at making a repair on a broken spring as a project. In this case the knife is a stainless steel example. I've been able to research that the original material for the springs was 410 HC stainless steel. While I've been able to locate some sources for small quantities of 410 all of it comes in different thickness than what the original material would be. It really looks like the original stock would have been supplied in 12 gauge, (about 0.10XX) thickness. The closest I've been able to find is 1/8" thick or 0.125". It seems to me that 0.025" of material would be a lot of material to remove with hand tools and end up with an acceptably even surface.
Any suggestions on known sources of 12 gauge 410 SS?
