1/4 stock blade in proper INFI steel, clip or drop point with a G10 or Micarta handle scales.

To be honest I am not in a position to buy right now, but am looking for a knife to replace my M2 Nimravious and Puma Cougar as my round the campsite medium fixed blade.

I have also looked at the Greco series (a little small for me but great for the money!)the SAble IV from CRK.

I don't like the look of the TOPS stuff or like the prices either for 1095 steel.

I like the look of the Swamprat stuff but am worried about the handles as I did not like the feel of a Basic 3 I looked at a few years ago.

So Busse fans, what is the knife in the range that would best suit me? Sorry for the questions but the search option is disabled:mad: :(

Ta!

The Chris Reeve Sable is a great knife. I like mine.

In the Busse line, you sound like a candidate for the Satin Jack. It is a slicer, dicer, chopper, poker and general purpose camp knife of the first order. You will not be disappointed.

Nimrod nailed it, the SJ is a great replacement for the knives you mentioned. If you want to upgrade chopping power, go with the Natural Outlaw.
For all around camping chores get a convex edge (Scary sharp and easy to to keep that way.).

I think the Satin Jack would fit your needs. Just
remember the Satin Jacks are 3/16th now. :D

I have to step in here and praise again, my Natural Outlaw. I bought a Satin Finish NO w/ convex grind. Its my favorite camp blade, no It's my favorite fixed blade period. Buy onr you won't be sorry.

Definitely check out the Satin Jack!

...you should also consider the Euro models that are in this range!

THanks all! I will prob go for the CG SJ as I want a model with a straight handle, the curved handle just does not appeal to me. One slight niggle though, why is the lovely satin finished model $100 more:eek: ? I would go for that model with no doubt if it were say $20 more for the extra work, but $100? That seems just crazy?

It is called SATIN Jack after all!

Thanks again.

Wayne,

I pretty much agree with Chris (cgd160). Both 1/4" models of the NO and SJ balance on the index finger area of the grip. Depending on the size of your hands, you might prefer one of the handles over the other.

I'm not sure what you did not like about the Basic 3 handle, although some find it too small. The Basic 7 handle (and I believe the SR Camp Tramp also) is larger, both in circumference and length. The Basic 7 is one of my all-time favorite knives, and the handle feels great (I like it better than my SJ or NO).

The SJ is a nice knife though; like Chip said, the steel in the new ones is 3/16" thick, which would make it a better slicer, although you would lose some chopping ability with the lighter weight - I guess the best choice for you depends at least somewhat on how you would likely use it the most.
