Thank you! Is the 55 more durable overall given it’s a lock back design? Is it up to more heavy tasks?
I'd say go with the 55 because it's not a discontinued model, you'll always be able to get blade replacement/service on a 55Thank you! Is the 55 more durable overall given it’s a lock back design? Is it up to more heavy tasks?

I have both as well and although I have a fond attachment to all of my 700 series knives, I would also recommend the 55. I've seen a lot of 700 series knives for sale that are missing the shield and it's way too late to get a replacement shield from Buck.
They kind of phased them out gradually. By 2001 the entire 700 series was discontinued but I'm not sure which year was the last year for the 704.Hmmm... Now you are having me second-guess carrying the 704! (I did know it is discontinued.)

Thanks for all the infoI dug up my ebony Crelicam 55, which I originally bought for carry. Playing with the two side-by-side, the 55 seems a heftier. It has a longer closed length (which is more obvious in-hand compared to the pictures I posted). The blade lengths seems similar, especially the edge lengths. The 55 seems to have a little more belly than the 704. The width seems the same, but I did not get out the calipers. I assume the heftier body of the 55 is due to needing the room for the lock back mechanism.
Summary beyond what was noted by others: Edge lengths the same. 55 blade belly wider. 55 frame heavier. I would say the 55 can handle a little heavier duty tasks. YMMV!
