Hi folks. I am looking to get into knife grinding and have used bench grinders, 4" hand grinders, files and sand papers. After a lot of advise I am now looking for a 72"x2" belt grinder. Problem is my location and the investment made towards the grinder. So any cheap used but repairable grinders are welcome.

money......it will always come down to a question of money...LOL

there is no one grinder that everyone can say is the best for the money...each grinder is different, some are better than others,,,some are crap,,,some are over priced but still good.

Some are worth every penny no matter how much they were up-front.

Im not too sure about getting a used grinder,,,you never know what life is left in the motor,,,but if you do get a used one and the motor dies, you can just get a new one and stick it in.

many grinders sold today dont come with a motor, be carefull when you do get such a one that you understand you need to now get a motor..

Do a search on grinders. You will find there have been many threads on this subject.

Johnny Stout posted this today on rec.knives.

If anyone is looking for a good 2''x72" belt grinder for knife making, I have two that I'm helping a fellow knifemaker sell that is closing his shop.

One is a Wilton Squarewheel grinder, the other is a Blademaster grinder. Contact me direct for pictures and prices. Prefer that they be picked up at my shop in New Braunfels, Texas.

Thanks.

Mike,

Do you know of anyone that has actually built a unigrinder? It looks really interesting, but I'm wondering if it is cost-effective to build? Keeping in mind that a KMG-1 base model is $650, how much in materials would a unigrinder be?

If anyone has any experience with a unigrinder, please let us know.

Thanks!

Yes I do know someone who has built one. In fact, he lives in your neck of the woods.
He goes by the name 'Just Plain Bill' here on the forums.
He lives in Washington. Drop him an email, he's a nice guy.
Note; I am not sure of the case type in his name. If you do a search for it, use lower case first.

Thanks for all the leads guys. You hit the nail on the head , Protactical I asked a friend in LA about the cost of shipping the Wilton. UPS listed $815.00 !!!
