Hello,

This is my first post and I've just started to look at the $200-$400 price range knives and I could use some help picking a good combat/utility blade; something that can take some abuse, but still be balanced and agile.

4" to 6 1/2" would be my prime blade size.
I have been looking at the Chris Reeve's knives (Pacific is nice) and Spartan Blades.
Can be custom, semi, or production, doesn't matter.
If you could suggest some of your favorites I would really appreciate it.

Thanks a bunch!

I was just going to say how much I like the Crk pacific. Don't think you would be disappointed.

Scrapyard 511! It is way under that price. Also swamprat Rodent 6. You do have to get your own sheath for them, but AZWelke can hook you up.

Take a look at a busse team gemini light brigade. I ordered one uncoated and its very heavy duty and nice.

I think what should be asked first is what exactly are you planning on doing with this blade?

This is a knife I will get incase i get deployed, so i will need it for common military tasks, maybe self defense (very unlikely) but better safe then sorry.

for that price range there is the ZT0100 and the various Busse Combat knives

For cheaper range the Kabar USMC 's or BK range are quite good. Don't know what your tastes are

Buy a couple of Becker BK-2's and spend the rest on beer. You won't be disappointed in either purchase. :D

Seriously, if I was deploying, I'd go with a Becker BK-7. That's a little longer than you specified, but for me it's just about perfect.

Spartans are good, so is BRKT. And if you really do want to go with that $300.-$400. range, check out the custom forum here. I'm sure one of the makers there would be more than happy to build you a knife to your exact specs.

Take a look at my Basic Military Fixed Blade, I designed it for exactly the usage you have in mind...

Heard great things about Bark River, never owned one. Just got in the mail today a American Kami Colubris Mid-tech, its a combat utility fixed blade. S35VN steel, great heat treat and thick stock. $300 shipped w/insurance of course.

So far, broke down 20 large cardboard boxes, fixed lunch and dinner with it and soon plan on taking it into the wilderness.

Check out American Kami, very interesting designs, and DJ (knife maker/designer/owner) is a great guy.

That looks a very practical and sensible design Mr Wilkins. Well done :)

Just looking at your site, very nice work :)

Bob Turzola designed CQB1 is still being made by Meyerco, and has to be held in the hand to be appreciated:

Your budget would certainly permit customs. That would be a good option. Maybe something by Daniel Winkler would suit.

I recommend the Daniel Winkler spike. Good utility blade, nice glass-breaker end which will be good for non-lethal as well as getting pesky windows out of the way(Which I imagine is more likely ;) ).

Take a look at our TQK and MH Mk1. They may fit what you are looking for. <link removed>
