When I first saw a Boker™ Kalashnikov 74 I really liked the handle shape and feel but I wish they had ones with a rubber coating..is there a specific company or brand of knife that uses the same type of handle but with rubber rather than bare metal...and has spring assist and or automatic?

Classy name, sir.

I don't think there are any identical knives with rubber handles, unfortunately.

In my mind Benchmade Axis Assist is the only assist worth having. All others pale in comparison. YMMV.

I don't think i've ever heard someone that before. Seems like just about everybody thinks the benchmade assist is useless. Kershaw speedsafe is the only spring assist i'll buy anymore.

I'm not a fan of the speedsafe. I have a few Kershaws with it and a ZT with it. To me it is just like the Benchmade Nitrous assist and the SOG assist which are both torsion based. The Axis-Assist is the only one that i have found that assists the entire arc of the blade travel. All of the others just give the blade an initial push and then stop there.

I'm not a fan of any assist mechanism any more. Flicking a spyderhole with your middle finger or using a nice flipper is just as fast and easier to close.
