I am looking for a Balisong to learn all the openings, closings, and other fun balisong stuff. What are my options for a good bali in the $40-50 range and who is a good online dealer from which to purchase balis?

Bear, pretty much.

There's not really much else... the rest is either <$20, or >$100

Just for a learner, the consensus seems to be to go with a Jag, and re-pin it when it breaks, unless you know already you're a die-hard, in which case, save up for the 42

Zach, my advise FWIW is to keep your eyes open on auction sites and gun shows for a good old bali. I just got a CI Black Mantis for $21.50 shipped. You can get a Jag or something similar to learn basics, but always keep your eyes open and be ready to pounce on a good deal.

Sorry to contradict someone but I would not get a bear. The Jag's pins might break(all of mine havent yet) but I have heard that the bear's handles crack. And a pin is easier to fix than a handle.

I have a sword in my pocket!

I just got into Balisongs at christmas when I bought a bear. That broke soon thereafter so in my experience I'd say the jags are better.
