Looking for a blower?

Since the fire I've been using a ventura style burner that works but just doesn't give me the heat I'm after. I finally went to Home Depot and got another bathroom exhaust fan to convert to a blower. Not much to convert over and it sure works nice plus there pretty quite. These fans are just under $13.00.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm gonna have to do that too. I've been using my shop vac for a blower, but have to have my choke/throttle on the burner almost clear shut. I think over time its going to be too hard on my shop vac, and the dang thing is too loud anyway.

Brian, I've got jury duty today. If I get sent home early I'll try to remember to take one then. Remind me if I don't.

Grant Sarver of Off Center Forge in Tacoma offers 3 sizes of forge blowers. These blowers are semi-regenerative blowers; and will maintain an airflow even when you close most of the ports to your forge. I used a squire cage fan from Surplus center for several years but the regenerative type are much more efficient. These blowers are much more expensive, but will payout in saving of propane in short order, especially at the gas prices that we see today. I will burn 6-8 gallons of fuel every forge session, about 5-6 hours. Reheat time is about 5 minutes for a 15-20 pound billet. Working two or three billets at the same time my forge will work me into the floor. I'm using the medium sized blower offered...Ed

Ray,

How does the exaust fan compare to that blower that I gave to you? I'm still dragging my feet on setting this thing up, but after my last blade being covered in scale, I'm about ready to jump in and get this thing hooked up.

Brian, Here it is. Nothing fancy but I sure am happy with the way it performs. The exhaust fan doesn't come with a front on it but its real simple to make one. The front is held on with duct tape. The leaf baffle is held on with suction. The leaf is removed once the forge gets hot enough to use more air.

Mike, after using the forge for a second time I prefer the exhaust fan over the blower you gave me.

So you're just using the leaf, and duct tape to limit the amount of air flow? Looks good.
You can also put a ball or gate valve in the pipe line running to your burner, so you can fine tune it if you want
