I am looking for a boot knife to serve that purpouse

i've found a lot of reviews on ag russel's sting, it seems to be a good blade if you like the format.. with a bad sheathe. I've liked most of the crkt products I have picked up.

CS has one i looked at.. but while I am ok with CS for escrima sticks and machettes to train with.. a functional blade, well lets just say I don't think i'd put my life in their hands.

another A.G Russel that i wasn't able to find much in the way of feedback on
was the kershaw military boot knife..

and the last blade i've been examining seems to be somewhat popular, more expensive; but again lacking in review... being a greco knife; the whisper appeals to me.. but looking at the boot knife for the time being.

Thoughts?

one thing that worries me about the sting.. is the apparent grip. The thumb indentations suggest a grip that is completely against what i've been taught in kali and sayoc.

Bark River:

Escort Boot Knife
Specs: Overall Length: 7.5 Inches Blade Length: 3.6 Inches Blade Steel: 12C27 @ 58rc Blade Thickness: .110 Inch Weight: 3.250 Ounces

thank you both for the inputs; i'll look into those,

as for use.. Well i've never found a knife that i'd felt totally comfortable with to fill that slot in my rotation.

self defense.. something that would work well both in boot and with a leg wrap. Typically to be drawn with knee raised

The Greco Whisper is a great knife.
I often carry a Greco Gambler Bowie which is the same blade with a different handle.
To use as a boot knife you'll need to have a sheath built so the cost is a bit more then the China made Kershaw you're looking at but IMO a better deal and a much better knife.

Why do you want to bot carry a knife?

Im not trying to dissuade you or turn this into a silly practac discussion but i think that carrying a knife on your waist or in the pocket of a hoodie or pants is just more practical the biggest part of carrying a blade for SD imho is not the blade type or style or anything elseits how you get it into a fight. try a waved emerson or a dagger on your belt if you want a dedicated sd knife, then again if you think that boot cary is your best bet then go for it SD is different for everyone, me ill just stic with my hollowpoints. aorry i feel its almost mandatory for me to push my pro gun agenda :D

@infidel considering that very thing; tho that ZT 150 is kinda catching.. i'd like to handle one.. the rubber grip looked potentially problomatic.

@razor it's not so much a decision of one over another. I typically carry a combat folder, and a utility folder on my keychain. If i'm going somewhere outside the norm (or just camping) I pack 1 or 2 smaller fixed blades (neck knives, one @ the waist, one on in a merc harness). Also in a military capacity (less now that i'm a reservist), i've occasionally wanted one.. if for no other reason than to have one more tool concealed.

I've not broken down and bought one, but today when I was picking up a bolo from CS I decided to dig into the matter. So it's probably not so much that I need it as much as it is the knife person in me saying time for another toy!

When I practiced sayoc, and sometimes now in kali, blades would be dropped.. The last thing you want to do is scramble for one on the ground. So you trained to pull from various places. When I throw a knee, I can pull a knife.. if there's one there!

i've been kind of considering getting a hand gun too... 40 or 45 likely.. I like the idea of a 40, though i've heard the rounds aren't super easy to get ahold of.

which makes me think of another kind of messed up topic.

Blade length is restricted here (and most places) with no real way around it. Yet a concealed carry is relatively easy to get for a firearm, with little restriction on caliber. Personally I think they should allow for a concealed carry of martial weapons, perhaps they don't allow it for silence reasons..

and back on the other side of that table.. I can carry knives legally in most parks, almost without restriction; but firearms are almost always disallowed.

... getting random ... took some pre-lifting stuff... so all hyped up..

the crkt sting is pretty good considering you can find them online for $31. the sheath isnt bad at all, its good for belt carry inmop, though i have never carried it strapped to my ankle or leg. the zt boot knife is good, but its not as easy to deploy inmop since you have to unlatch that strap with the button before you can pull the knife out of the sheath.

Hey nailbunny i forgot to ask is your tag a JTHM reference? What supplements you takin? NO got you all revved up? im active duty btw. ive met some fairly similar people on this forum. i guess i can see how a knee would work well ive got a an intersting idea about a push dagger on a drop leg holster on the inside of your legs the outside has yor gun/spare mags. because its easy for you to draw ( even when your putting someone in the gaurd) and hard for another person to grab so it could be in kydex. i really gotta bring the opic up elsewhere though because its been bounceing around in my head a bit.

oh and on the topic of guns i whole heartedly endorse khar brand firearms as ive never had mine jam even once. they are also nice and compact and dont have any problem handling hollow points. as an edc id reccomend a 9mm with hydrashocks i carry a gun to get myself out of a situatin notecause i want to engage in a gunfight. i dont think that a .45 or .40 is warranted and i have a weird aversion to using a .45 acp round in a non 1911 style hadgun. 9mm hydrashocks will do the job just ifne and help you keep your un small light and concealed with manageable recoil for accurate followup shots.

id reccomend the khar cw9: http://www.kahr.com/PA-1_9mm_cw.html its high quality peice and one of their best sllers it can also be bought for less than the listed price. http://www.kahr.com/PA-1_9mm_cw.html

hope you like it

@razor yes, it's JHTM; conscience of a maniac and all.. read the stuff back when it came out.. so many many years ago.. Not taking NO, but it's pretty much the same idea; blood "doping".. bout out of it and going to order a diff product this time.. that stuff is fine, just like to cycle things.

to list just about everything... isopure, muscle milk, plant (fruit) protein powder, plant (veg) protein powder, dark rage (pre w/o), dark matter (creatine pwdr post w/o mix), casein (@ night w/ peanut butter, soy milk n' water), some creatine pills on the days I don't take dark matter (lots of carbs in it, so if I get a late work out i avoid it). Elastijoint.... feels like i'm missing something....

as for the knee, that's been a kali thing primarilly, you really kinda of lean away from it.. kind of like prepping a muay thai push kick (from a defensive stance , toes pulled in)

The ZT150's handle is G-10, not rubber. From ZT's site - "...the grooved handles are 3-D machined in matte-black G-10".

I've been eying the ZT0150 for a while now. No other dagger/boot knife has caught my interest like the 150. It shall be mine!

what is all that for?

im not a big fan of creatine its just water weight bro. muscle milk is good stuff but im not a very bulky guy so i tend to use cytogainer, gonna try out that new monster milk sometime tho.

the ZT boot dagger is a terrific knife. Outstanding quality, design and execution.
I have 3 of them. :p

If you guys have good searching skills, you will be able to find my review on the ZT 0150. Excellent knife in all accounts, pretty much perfect knife from the knife itself to the sheath.

I love mine, and it carries very well. It has G-10 handles, not rubber, and the blade is PVD coated S30V.

I have the Kershaw and CRKT, and also an original Sting. 22 years USAR, and went through the boot knife thing when it first surfaced - in the 70's.

The knives are generally good, the boot carry isn't - especially in uniform, exactly when it's "preferred." Every pound on your feet is worth 10 on your back, so loading up one leg with a hard to retrieve, insecure, and generally dull, blunt knife didn't work for me. Double edge boot knives are usually ground for sticking, not slicing, so the edge geometry is compromised. So much for the Sting (which I love,) it's just not a great utility blade. It's also compromised by a lot of negative legality, civilian or military.

The Kershaw is single edge, thin, and big. My original sheaths have no keeper, I understand the new ones are much better. Like the new CRKT, all the straps get to be counterproductive, and never maintain good grip. The old Tekna spring loaded buckles prevented a lot of that, but the overall concept can still leave things drooping.

I got both and use neither. I settled my choice on a clipped 4 inch folder, which became the universal standard for me - especially in uniform. The people I worked with in the Infantry and MP's preferred our primary weapons and trained on them. The logisticians I worked with preferred the toys - and were in denial about their vulnerability. All the blades they carried were nice, and looked cool sitting on their field desks. All the gear we carried was required, and we didn't add an unecessary ounce to it if we could.
