Hey all, this is my first post here on Bladeforums, so greetings to everyone!
I'm trying to find a Wharncliffe/Pointy Sheepsfoot/Reverse Tanto/Something Similar with a one-handed flickable closing mechanism (like a button lock, cross-bar, deadbolt, or similar), a steel better than 8cr, and preferably with a thumb stud or cutout (but if it doesn't have one, it's not the end of the world). My miserable budget is $75 or under.
Does such a thing exist?
Thanks!

If auto is OK, and $120 not too much, I recommend the Kershaw Launch 13. Great steel, too.

Welcome to the forum!
How’s something like this look? Kershaw Natrix. Blade steel is 8Cr13MoV, Chinese made, but it’s well within your budget. I’ve got one sitting in my mailbox at this very moment that I haven’t retrieved yet.

Welcome! That budget is not miserable at all. I had a hard time spending 50$ on my first kershaw blur...

Kizer and Civivi made a bunch of recent button locks that will fit your bill, such as the Chevalier, Swaggs Swayback, Assassin, Towser, etc.

Crossbar lock might be tough without looking at SOG, or Gerber, neither of which are on my recommend list...

Good luck!

Oh - you said button lock… sorry.
Also got a Kershaw Launch 11, but that’s slightly over your budget.

Closest I can think in that budget range is the Kizer Swayback. It's a relatively small knife (3" blade) and it has a flipper tab + button lock. Around $60 in N690 steel.Kizer-Vanguard-Swaggs-Swayback-Red-Micarta-SW-V3566N4-BHQ-126630-jr-large-444745530.jpg

Wrong blade shape, but CIVIVI makes a couple button locks within your budget. Check out the Elementum and Conspirator. I've never owned a bad CIVIVI; I owned another version of the Elementum, and it was a superb knife.

My experience with Kizer's Vanguard line has been mixed, but there's one Wharncliffe in that line, the Sway Back, that meets all of your criteria. Not sure if it's still in production, but worth a look around.

The button lock is somewhat limiting the choices, but if you can do without the button lock, and staying well under the $75 budget, look for TwoSun Knives.....several possibilities from them, but mostly liner locks with flipper tabs. Good quality, decent steel, good action, and excellent value.....
Both were under $60....

Then there is the Artisan Proponent.....

First off, I am pleasantly astounded at how many replies were given to me in such a short time. Thanks so much everyone!

Yeah, I like the looks of the Swayback and Chevalier.
I have a question about each of them, if anyone has an answer:
This is rather subjective, but is the tip of the Chevalier pointy enough to accomplish everyday tasks with ease, say cutting tape on a box, or opening a plastic package, or scoring a surface? I can't really judge from all the pictures I've seen.

And, has anyone here had experience with the Wharncliffe Swayback? If so, how is the handle? With that, shall we say, different geometry, it looks as if it might feel a bit weird in the hand.

Thanks again for taking time to look at both these and my original question!

I don't own a Chevalier, but judging from photos I'd say you'll be pretty satisfied with this tasks. The swayback has a much more acute tip, and actually has a surprisingly thicc handle...just fyi. I wouldn't say it's an ergo win, but it's not bad.

Welcome to the forums.

As Dergyll Dergyll mentioned, the Swayback will be a little better for scoring and piercing due to the "pointy-er" tip but the Chevalier will be adequate. FWIW, I think the red linen micarta handles on the Swayback looks good. I own one Kizer, Beglieter in 20CV. It was under $100. Very pleased with it.

Do you have a preferred blade length in mind? Your local laws might restrict your options. Chances are the Swayback at 3" will be fine but double check.

Don't know if any of their offerings fit your requirements, but Steel Will makes some pretty good knives within your budget. Usually with D2 blades.

Thanks for the welcome!
And as to the length, no worries there, because I live in Texas, so...yeah, the knife laws here are thankfully very sane--as in anyone over 18 can carry pretty much any blade they want pretty much wherever they want, regardless of length. And yes, I'm over 18 :D.

The Civivi Chevalier looks like it's right up your alley. I don't have one yet, but do have a Conspirator and it's, quite frankly, pretty awesome. Chevalier should be a good one!
