Hey all. I'm in the market for a traditional knife, BUT it has to have a bail. I'm open to any pattern, company, etc. Money wise, I have around $100-150 to spend.... I have a vintage book on leather braiding, so possibly a leather lanyard will be attached onto the bail, then put onto my keychain.

If you guys own the certain knife, I would also like to know how it's performance was. Thanks!

the only knife i could think of with a bail and small enough to fit on a keychain would be a case peanut. the ones with a bail are somewhat hard to find but they're out there.

i think rough rider might make a small single blade lockback with a lanyard hole, might want to check out smkw.

Not to hijack the thread from the OP, but is this a bail? Sorry, new to traditionals.

Yes, that is a bail -- traditionally used on both hard working knives (electricians and sailors knives for example) and on small, delicate pen knives.

How about a scout knife? I had this one in my pocket for a barbecue yesterday, and I was a very popular guy because of the bottle opener.

You might want to look at the #33 pattern Northfield Conductor from Great Eastern Cutlery. They made them with and without bails, in several handle materials; and they are under a hundred bucks.

Yeah, that is possible. I do like that pattern a lot...

I think the TL-29 has to be my favoite pattern, right along side a marling spike knife. Buck Yachsman 315 (I believe that's the model) is a decent one. Plenty of old TL's floating around consignment stores for cheap. I'll take the character in a knife over bright and shiney new any day!

Not many traditionals have bails any longer, aside from Swiss Army Knives. Most of mine that have bails are either scout patterns or small vintage models.

Lots of scout knives out there with bails. I have a Remington Camillus remake, and an old Primble hardware stores scout. Both have paracord lanyards, I think that a leather lanyard would look better ;).

Christian, I think a buddy of mine has that same knife. Is that an Imperial?

If a Scout pattern is under consideration, maybe worth a look at Case Junior Scout. A little smaller than most scouts. I like it a lot, in part because of the bail. Kamagong - yes having the bottle opener at a BBQ is a good way to stay in the mix.

Good luck!
