Hello bladeforums!

I've been lurking for quite a while, just bought a Delica, now I want a fixed blade knife to complement the small delica.

This knife will be used for almost everything, from whittling, cutting paper, chopping, digging(gasp), splitting wood, cardboard, carpet ect. Therefore, it must be very tough. Would rather have carbon steel, d2, ect. Rust is no problem, it wont my a baby knife, its gonna get its ass beat.

Also, it has to be cheap.

So far these are considerations:

Frost Morakniv 2000

Cold Steel K4

Rat Izulu
(Its on the small side, and expensive)

Frost Mora 612

Kershaw Bear Hunter 2

Im pretty new to the knife world, so please, give me suggestions, it will be appreciated!

Also, $40 Cap

Anybody have experiences with 4116 Krupp found in the Cold Steel Western Hunter?

Cold Steel Pendleton Mini Hunter (Also a bit small, but VG-1 is good)

you're gonna have a heck of a time chopping/splitting wood with any of your choices.

ideally, i would suggest saving and spending a little more for a quality durable knife like the larger rat series models.

given your choices and requirements, the frost 2000 seems to be the best suited. although the mora blades are pretty thin so i wouldn't expect too much in the chopping wood category.

You'll destroy the Moras digging. The other two will be worse the wear for it too. None of these are choppers. A CS Bushman may be a better bet, but may be bigger than you're looking for.

Yea, I guess maybe chopping/splitting would be totally realistic. I can splurge some more $ for say a Kabar USMC knife. How would that fare?

The bushman's definetely a choice, but damn, its got one f'ed up handle!

Damn, just watched the knifetests video for the Bushman, and I'me Impressed! I think the guy got tired hitting it against the brick.

get the bushman but don't use it for digging. use the knife to make a wood stick and dig with that.

Kabar short heavy bowie is $38 or so, over 40 with s/h.

Kabar Becker necker is under 40. Not sure how comfortable the handle would be for prolong use (could para cord wrap it too).

Ontario Spec Plus line isnt bad. I have the Quartermaster.

Ive decided to do some research on the mora clipper. Wow, I love this knife. So i think ive decided, Im gonna get both the Mora Clipper and the CS (normal) bushman. About 35 bucks with shipping included from edc depot. Thanks a whole lot guys. Gotta say, this forums is great, loads of info, and quick response times to boot!

Benchmade Rant DPT ($47ish)

Becker BK2 Campanion (It is around $50 but would meet every one of your requirements and surpass them)

The Kabar Becker BK2 is about 60-70 bucks with shipping everywhere. (NGK has it for like 60 with shipping)

BTW, any experiences with notyourmamaknives?

Have you considered getting two inexpensive blades? A Mora for whittling and a Tramontina machete for chopping would cost a little under $20 together. Maybe a bit over with shipping but still under $25. I've been beating on the Tram bolo for years, worth way more than $6. Just food for thought.
