Looking for a chopper/camping knife and small, thinner blade for carving

Hi!

I have a bushcrafter and also a Bark River Bravo1 which both are nice blades.

However, I am now looking for a pair. I want a bigger knife durable enough for chopping/batoning for when
I am not carrying my axe. I also want a smaller, thinner blade for general carving and fishing.

The larger blade should be around 6 inches and a durable knife.
The smaller, around 3-4 inches, with a thinner blade for carving and general use.

Which two knives would you recommend? Preferably I would want to find a matching pair
with wood scales, but I know that is hard when it comes to Fiddlebacks :-)

Thanks!

Perhaps a camp knife and a Hiking Buddy? :-)

Or Maybe camp knife and a Bushcraft karda?

Many nice models to choose from.

Anyone using the camp knife for heavier work?

For the large knife, you want a Camp Knife, Camp Nessie, or Duke, or Bushcrafter Sr. The Camp knife will outchop the rest, but weighs a lot more. That is its sole design purpose though as opposed to the others which are large belt knives. If you go with the smaller ones mentined (not small knives), point style should be your deciding factor.

For the smaller knife you could choose just about anything from the hiking Buddy sized knives. The Hiking Buddy, F2, Bearcub, Bushnub, Bushcrafter Jr (you could have a set of 3 that way, very Nessmuk-ey), Toboggon (my new favorite) or even a Gaucho, though, its a little bigger.

Love the post! Thanks for your support!

Thanks!

Wow, loads of options, I will go through these models on your site and take a good look.
Then all I have to do is sell of some other unused and way to expensive knives to free up the cash.
The only problem is that the Friday sales are around bed-time for my kids here in Sweden, so I often find
myself a bit late to the party :-)

Have a great weekend!

After a few years of back and forth I've decided that this is the perfect pair.

The 1/8" Ladyfinger could also be swapped out with a 1/8" Recluse, Kephart or similar thinner blade with a good tip.

I haven't owned one of the larger Fiddlebacks yet, but for something in the 3-4" range, I can't recommend the Bear cub enough. It's relatively compact, but still fills the hand nicely.

Nice! Is the larger one a camp knife?

The Camp Knife is excellent. There is a tumbled one this week that is out of this world.

Yea. I was really into that knife. The burlap is VERY grippy looking when you tumble it. Really neat looking effect too.

When I go in on Sunday I am going to tumble an F2 blade from CPM 154...........
