Well, i found out today that my uncle doesn't want a leather sheath and he wants the nylon cordura stuff. Anyone know where I can get a sq. foot of it or someplace that just sells the sheaths?

Does anyone know where I can buy Corudra Nylon????

Hi Taz
I get my cordura from Blue Mountain Knives. You can't beat their prices (Wholesale only).

Outdoor wilderness fabrics also sells cordura nylon. Their website is www.owfinc.com/. Don't try ordering off of the website it is almost never working or it lacks an important detail. Call the 1-800 number on the site and order that way. You can ask for scraps if you do not want a lot. Pricing is in the $8-$14 per 1 yard long by 60 inches wide. Price varies depending on the color and thickness you want.

Glenn

Thanks for te replies, guys! One more question...which stuff do I want? 1000 Dernier?

I can help you out taz but there area few things you have to consider. Cordura is a Dupont registered name. there are lots of nylon pack cloths. Lined- Unlined? Cordura type cloth frays and comes apart eaaily which is why it is usually made with a binder which needs a special feeder to roll it and place it over the cordura as it enters to be sewn.
look at cordura belt sheaths and you will see what I'm talking about.
I can hook you up with piece of cordura
in the size you mentioned. What kind of sheath are you making. With the exception of a belt sheath for a folder you will need to line the cordura with something.

I'm making a sheath for my uncle's drop point, 4" hunting knife. I have a few sheaths from UC for my tantos, and they all have a foam type liner. I also have a sheath made out of 8 or 9 oz leather from Texas Knifemakers supply and some scrap leather in that thickness. I also have some fabric like what goes on metal folding chairs. It looks like leather, but it really vinyl or something. COuld I lay the Cordura over that? I was going to try to get some of that and kinda copy that design, where there is a liner and the edges of the Cordura are folded over.

I have absolutely no experience with using cordura for fixed blade knives.
I've seen some made with thick nylon type fabric but have no idea where they get the stuff or even what it's called. Some call it balistic cloth but they call a lot of stuff balistic cloth.
I have the normal cordura you will get if you order it from the sites listed in this thread.
return the e-mail I sent you with your address and I'll mail you a piece of unlined and a piece of lined cordura. Only color I have is black. I'll also send you a piece if wide nylon webbing which might be useful and some smaller webbing for a belt loop.
Wish I could help more but I'm stumped.

Hey Guys...

Alot of the Cordura type sheaths you see out there are actually carboard or some cheap ass plastic inserts...

If you want real safety and something that will keep the blade secure,, you need to go with a Concealex or Kydex lined sheath.

A blade just slid into a Cordura sheath, without something at least half assed and it won't last worth a darn...

The better sheaths you see out there that are Cordura are lined with at least ABS or PVC thermalforming plastic shaped roughly in the design of the blade.

These sheaths only hold the blade in place with some type of a strap.

Why not make a kydex liner formed perfectly to the knife, then wrap it up in Cordura ? or even leather for that matter...

With the advent of Concealex/Kydex in the knife industry, Cordura is Passé these days...

Synthetic sheaths are stronger, last longer, and give Superior protection over Any type of sheathing material on the market today...

But then again I'm bias...
