Looking for a different kind of big folder

Hey folks!

I'm looking for a large folding knife. However, I prefer fixed blades for heavy duty use and don't want a brute. I want a strong knife but don't need a beater. Something with about a 4" blade, zero finger grooves, and a straight line down the spine would be right up my alley. This will be for cutting stuff, food prep, and the old "SELF DEFENSE!!11!ONE", though in reality I don't want anyone's blood literally on me and would choose a big stick over a knife anyday. :D

What I've tried in this general category-
-4" SOG Spec Elite- Love the handle shape, clip's kinda uncomfortable whilst in use, do NOT like recurved blades at all.
-Cara Cara 2's- Fits my giant hands ok, no problem with the 8cr13mov, pretty decent lockup.
-Spyderco Endura 4- Does not fit my hand at all, not so great lockup amongst my 3 samples, love the steel but blade is a tiny bit thin on the FFG versions. I don't think a larger Spyderco (Police, Military, Resilience) would be what I want.

All I really carry are mid-sized SAK's, especially the small Tinker, and somewhat often a Cara 2.

I like spear points, straight edges and spines,... Just a simple looking folding knife. I don't like liner locks on larger knives and would prefer a guard/flipper of some sort. I am a stickler for a solid lockup.

Any recommendations? I also like cheaper stuff. :D

The dozier hunter I have has very solid lock up. If youre into saving money, then the resilience is right up your alley. I was very impressed by the lock up and sharpness of mine right out of the box.

I also like the lockup on the Dozier. It locks with a pretty resounding click. Solid lockback.

That said, if I'm in any situation where the lockup of a folder comes into question....it's fixed blade time. I do not like to push folders. That's just me.

I've never been able to get myself to get any of that line. The exposed liner lock, the lack of ricasso,... They just don't do it for me.

I was going to suggest a BM Dejavoo, but the blade thickness is about the same as the FFG Endura.

On the cheaper end of the scales, a recon1 or a large voyager from cold steel will fit the bill. Steel is only so-so as its AUS8A but the tri-ad lock(back lock) is pretty solid, or there's always the regular bm griptilian which is solid but isn't a huge blade by any means.

Yes, a straight line from the top of the butt to roughly the tip.

That's odd; the reply I replied this to isn't there anymore (Spyderco Resilience).

Short of a tanto blade shape, I can't think of anything else that has that kind of straight line you speak of.

Yea, that one has a swedge and probably costs way more than you want to pay anyway, but it serves illustrative purposes.

CRKT Kommer Surf N' Turf folding fillet knife. Food prep? Yes. Excellent slashing? Should be. Handle may be a little fancy for your taste.

CS Hold out comes in 4"

I forgot. Timberline Delta 18. Wharncliffe blade is one of the choices, 4" blade. Linerlock, but a very solid design.

This is a knife I just purchased and haven't gotten yet. It sorta follows your guidelines, but it was the first I thought of when I read your op.

It's a collab between Citadel Knives/Fox knives, and built in Maniago, Italy. Sorta long and slender looking to me. Blade is N690Co and is .157"thick X 4.53"long. Liner lock (steel) @ .062" thick. Satin blade/Ziricote wood handles, or Micarta/black coated blade. Does have a flipper, and it has the LAWK's secondary lock, but said to be built better than what you see from CRK&T.

Anyway, it's the one I thought of, for what thats worth.

You know, AG Russell has some well made knives that he has done in China. Several are models that were initially released in the yearly Texas Rangers 185th Year Commenrative's. These are south of a $100 bill also.
