Looking for a easily concealable fixed blade

Hi guys, I'm new here. I'm new to knives, so go easy on me =).

I'm looking for a fixed blade for self defense that:

is easily concealable
5" blade
strong grip

As for my budget, the cheapest one that matches the features I'm looking for would suffice. Not sure what else I should be looking for. I'm looking to conceal it on a belt strap on the back of my waist. I wonder whether that's a good idea as well  Anyways, all constructive inputs will be appreciated :D

You might want to check out the Spyderco Temperance. There is also the excellent Benchmade Nimravus to take a good look at. Both has slightly under a 5" blade, but it's close-enough.

it's not 5" blade but the RAT-3 from ontario is plenty of knife (about 4" blade from tip to handle slab). comes with a plastic kydex-like sheath with tek-lok so behind the waist carry is ready straight outta the box.

I agree with the RAT-3 being a good knife, but the sheath is no good for a self defense knife. I'm going to have a leather sheath made for this purpose. It will not only be faster than the Kydex, but slimmer as well.

I dont know what your budget is but bud nealy knives may have just what you're looking for. The Pesh-kabz or any of his other blades come in the size and sheath style you are looking for

I'll have to second the bud nealy knife, I have a couple and they are second to none as far as speed and concealabilty goes.

Buds Multi Concelment System is extremely adaptable.

You can modify a short Kabar's leather sheath into this:

Material: short Kabar + 6 aluminum rivets + washers

Tools: drill press, riveter

Is it just me or do 5" fixed blade and "easily concealable" not really go that well together?

Not just you, I was going to post that if no one else had.

For me, easily concealable, but still big enough to do the job, would be something in the 6.5-7.5 OAL area.

I carry small of back horizontal all the time, above my belt (with the sheath closer to my body than the teklok). The blades I carry there are either a Strider SLCC, DB, or a 6.25 OAL David Mosier custom.

The SLCC is the ultimate though, tons of blade for it's length and you really do forget it's there.

My idea of an easily concealable fixed blade is a Hide Away Knife.

I reccomend it to everyone.

Jeez, just get a waved Endura and stick it in your pocket or IWB. Can't get much better/faster than this (but it can get a LOT more expensive)!

Edit: sorry, just realized you want fixed blade. Anyway, do you think of knife SD as:

a) stabbing/slashing;
b) hammering the other guy with the blade spine?

If you choose a), then get a waved Endura, and you'll do just fine.

strider mg fits your criteria except for blade length, its quite sturdy, really freaking pointy and doubles as an icepick, check one out on the Striderknives site. its small enough to fit in your pocket in its sheath without a bulge.

Spyderco Fred Perrin Street Bowie. I think the black-blade ones are less expensive. Designed to be what it's called by a guy who knows what he's doing.

Simonich Urban Raven was designed with those parameters in mind:
"is easily concealable
5" blade
strong grip".

I also suggest Bud Nealy's knives. I cary mine right next to my belt buckle behind my untoucked tee-shirt. It's practically invisible. And Bud's sheath system allows for you to put the knife just about everywhere you want.
