Hi, I'm new to these forums. After several days of reading and searches I'd figured I'd just come out and ask. I own several knives already, the most recent being the CRKT-M16. I'm looking for a fixed blade, just under 4 inches and under $100. Recommendations would be helpfull.

Benchmade outbounder good steel, fair sheath and handy knife design. It also just begs to be used in one of mike sastre neck sheaths.

CRKT companion , and order a custom sheath from Normark at On-scene tactical . All for under $100 . It's my daly fixed blade carry rig .

The Spyderco Bill Moran can be had for around $60 and will out cut knives 3 times the price. It has VG-10 steel and a great multi position kydex sheath. I have the drop point version.
You cannot go wrong with the Moran!

Adam,
First of all, welcome to the forums!
Seems Dakota and I agree, I would like to secound the Spyderco Moran drop point nomination.

Mike Cooper makes a neat little fixed blade called the Mighty Mite. I bought one for my daughter. I beleive it comes in right at your price range....its 100 dollars IIRC. Mike does leather sheaths or kydex. Blade is right at 3 3/4". Mikes knives are extremely high quality and definately priced below what they are acually worth. Definately one worth checking out.

Is it the polkowski/kasper companion that all of you speak of when you guys mention CRKT companion?

Spyderco Moran Drop Point.

-Very comfortable handle.

-Well-made/conceived sheath, accessories and optional accessories.

-High Quality steel.

-Very good price point.

It has been my absolute favorite for the longest of any knife.

Have to agree with the mentions of the Spyderco Bill Moran knives. Great knives for the price...

Fallkniven F1. Best fixed blade knife I've ever used. I carry mine daily in a Concealex sheath from Eric at On/Scene Tactical.

BTW I got my F1 from www.discountknives.com

Regards,
Clay

I'll second the vote for the BM Outbounder. It's beautiful, with a very functional blade shape, and it's cheap. The only downside could be the handle - it's rather small and could be uncomfortable for someone with large hands.

Newt Livesay makes a very nice 3" dropped point fb in 440C in a 35 degree from horizontal kydex belt sheath. They run around $75.00, IIRC

Without knowing exactly what you intend on using this knife for, I would suggest you check out Grohmann Knives (www.grohmannknives.com).. You can easily get some 4" (and less) blade models for well under $100 (Canadian dollars no less).. And these are quality hand made and field tested knives.. These are not your menacing looking 'tactical' knives, actually they look a like kitchen knives on steroids but they are very tough and usefull.

I own and would suggest you look into a model 3 which is issued to the Canadian Armed Forces. This knife is sometimes called a 'Jump Master's Knife' and it is issued to paratroopers and sappers for general use and cutting yourself out of your harness. Its been in service since I think 1963 and I have a few friends who had these issued to them and they swear by them. They are issued with a stainless blade, rosewood handle and an overlap leather sheath.. My knife is identical except it has sambar stag handles instead.. Anyhow I have used this knife for everything from field dressing and skinning deer to preparing meals and general camping use.. I love it. You should know that Grohmann offers many custom options with their knives like handle material and you can get carbon steel and part of the edge serrated in you would like too...

In addition their model 1 is an outstanding hunting knife as well (4" blade).. Its been sold since the 50s and I know of a few old men from Northern Ontario who do not use any other knife and would not dare clean a moose with anything else.. This model 1 has also been copied by Knives of Alaska..

Sorry for the novel.

Blackjack Knives has a 3" fixed blade in 52100 and a leather sheath from Green River Leather Works for $80 plus shipping. The one that I have holds an edge exceptionally well.
