I'm looking for a fixed blade that meets the following criteria:

Good/Great steel
At least a 6" blade, no more than 9".
Guards
Good ergonomics
aesthetic

<$100 USD

I'm liking the 119 special so far.

Thanks

Well I have had a 119 for about 6 months and I am really happy with it. I use folders most of the time so I don't have a lot of experiance with fixed blades but I like my 119 alot more than a COLD STEEL SRK that I had in the past. Not knocking the SRK just think that the BUCK is a better blade.
I have used the 119 for building brush blinds and clearing shooting lanes."bowhunting" It does a good job and mine came with a good leather sheath. My 2 cents.

You might want to look into a Marbles made in 2000 or earlier.
Greg

I've been trying to find out what the deal is with Marbles...I know that some guys left Marbles and opened BRK&T.

Are Marbles newer knives poor quality? I like the style of their knives but don't know anything about them.

Now you've got me curious. too.
I've got a Marbles Ideal from last year, seems like a very nice little knife, and my only complaint with it so far is the thin bone handles and the sheath.
What am I missing?
I'm not looking to argue, I'd just like to know.
Thanks.

I just got my new Marbles Ideal hunting and it's a nice knife. It looks just like this: http://store5.yimg.com/I/knives4you_1784_4847497 except the grind lines are higher.

It wasn't razor sharp but I whet stoned it just a little and it tuned up to razor sharp in just a few seconds.

Now, I think I might get the 7" Ideal from A.G. Russell! They also have the same knife with 6" and 8" blade lengths.

The steel in the high carbon models is 50100-B (or, if the blades are being made by Camillus, probably something very very similar) - same as the steel Camillus uses in its great Becker line, or Cold Steel's Carbon V. Very similar to 52100, only wth about .3% chrome (52100 has about 1%) and with the addition of vanadium. This is a great cutlery steel, holds a magnificent edge, very tough, easy to sharpen, but it will rust easily unless given reasonable care. Marbles also offersd a stainless line which is probably similar to what Buck uses -- a decent cutlery steel but harder to sharpen than high carbon.

Marbles website reads like this:

"American-made 0170-6 high carbon chrome vanadium steel" and "Rockwell: 58C"

I believe this is the same steel Camilllus uses in their Becker line.

If you don't mind 8670 carbon steel knives. Check out some John Greco knives. He makes some custom fixed blades that are within your specfic and under 100. I personally have a Greco knife and love it. It's definitely worth every penny.

Another confirmation of the top quality of Greco knives. Definitely value for money.
