Looking for a folder with wooden handles.

Hey all,

I am looking for a folder (probably not a slipjoint) with wooden handles. I am fixated on the BM 690, but before I commit I was wondering if anyone had any other in mind. I am looking for something for EDC, general cutting duties. I know a lot of slipjoints have wood, but I would prefer something with a lock. Thanks in advance.

SOG Tomcat, its big though.

I'll second the Bucks, but I would also add the 500 series, depending on what you're looking for.
The 500 series is a little nicer than the 110/112, but not as heavy duty.

Benchmade has made a couple of their folders with wood scales. One was an axis lock knife but the name and model number escapes me at the moment. Lonewolf jsut started making their Hearsy folder with wood scales as well.

it's not on the BM quality level, but timberline makes the worden tactical with rosewood scales.

Wooden handles, has a lock, can get pretty darn sharp, and cuts well. Best of all, costs about $7-9!

I like that Tomcat. The newer version has a thumbstud but the nailnick gives it classy look. Buck 110 is a great knife and the price is great as well. I have had mine for 8 years.

I know you wanted to stay away from slipjoints but I just bought a Queen large toothpick in D2 with a cocobola handle and I love it. :D It has a 5" handle and a 4" blade. Very sleek and slim, fits in the pocket nicely. I paid about $45 for it. I was never a slipjoint fan before this purchase but I bought the knife on a whim. A slipjoint only means that you will have to actually use safe knife handling practices rather than rely on a mechanical feature to protect you. :)

if you're fixated on the Benchmade 690, i'd think all the other knives would be a step (or more) down from that.

my favorite wood scaled knife is the Buck 110. you could get the S30V version from Cabela's for $60, and i'd consider that a great deal.

Queen also has a very nice, hefty Mountain Man lockback in D2 with cocobolo handles.

I'll echo either the Boker Titan or the Buck 110. If you like the 110 don't foget to go to the Custom Shoppe and you can choose the wood, which in most cases won't increase the cost of the knife. Of course having said that try as you might getting past the other options may be somewhat of a challenge.

I agree with Esav, and Blinded. A.G. Russell has some great looking wood-handled knives, and the Buck Alaskan Guide 110 with S30V from Cabela's is a steal at $60.
