I saw an image of a collapsable saw that is a trapezoid design when fully assembled. It also collapses and stores in one tube.

Can anyone find the name of this saw?

Hello Sundsvall,

Ask an you shall receive ;), I thought that Campmor and or Cabelas had this tubular saw but remembered that they stopped carrying it.

But there's another company that also has it for $19.95

Go to http://www.treehelp.com and chose the treehelp store tab or just search for "Portable Buck Saw: 24-Inch" and you'll find it.

or try this:

Best scouting wishes from Holland,

LS Rokjok, we posted the same time, I had to edit the URL so I suddenly saw your post :)

I purchased some Mil-Spec wire saw from some jack*ss chinese kid who works at IceBerg Army-Navy on Broadway in NYC ;)

Anyway, the damn thing works like a charm. It saws incredibly fast, stores in an empty shoe polish tin (the small size) and you can cut yourself a branch to make a bow and stretch the wire between the ends. Best of all, it weighs nothing and fits in your pocket.

Hey Guys!
FWIW, A buddy of mine has the "tube" saw that you mentioned. I've got the fold up aluminum "Sawvivor" by Trailblazer. (It's made of flat aluminum tubing, and when un-folded, looks like a conventional hacksaw, but is very light.) Browning also markets the same saw under their name.
During a weekend camp out that we were using to field test some gear, we decided to try the saws out against one another. The folding saw of mine cut WAY better than the other one.
It took nearly twice the time and effort to cut thru the same log. However, the tube saw does disassemble into a smaller package, but there are no small parts to lose on the folding saw, either.
All things considered, I'm staying with what I've got. However, the tube saw is still a good tool, and if space were a critical consideration, I'd still use one.

So you think the sawviver is the way to go? Okay, i'll bite. What's largest the sawviver comes in.

When I go camping, most of the smaller wood has already been harvested. I only have huge dead trees that the rangers cut down.

Thus far I have been chopping with Ax and knife, but it is not all that efficient. I would pack a chainsaw but the rangers would freak out. I am going to buy a splitting maul with wedges from Gransfors Bruks.

I just need a saw that can handle 12-15" diameter wood.

The Browning version comes in 15" and 18" blade lengths, the 18" might still be a bit short for what you're doing. I'm not trying to sales pitch you here, but if you decide that you want one, and cannot find it anywhere else, email me. I have a source for them. Thanks!

Hey Mutt,

I am looking for a heavier duty saw for some serious cutting. How are you doing? Are you still training with the jack*ss chinese kid?:D

I was chopping logs about 15" diameter with my GB Hunters Ax. Needless to say, it took a long time, and both my hands are sore.

I stopped training... it was getting a bit too advanced for me. I also got a new job where I can't make the classes. Anyway, I've resorted to my .45 and my tomahawk...

speaking ofchopping wood, there is a woodworking supply shop just two blocks from iceberg... they carry a good selection of saws and axes (not GB, but another swedish company, SAW). The place is Garett wade, 161 6th avenue... it's in the building with the paint store, on the second floor. It's a nice place to look around.

Thanks for the lead.

You know its not PC to walk around with a .45 and tomahawk. Some people may think you are a BG.
