I just got an Emerson CQC 15 mini and was looking for a good food grade cleaner/lubricant as I might be using this for fishing and hunting. So the blade will be in contact with food or food to be so basically it has to be non-toxic and possibly edible.

Since I dont have the search option, can someone point me in the right direction?

So far Ive been reading that mineral oil is good for this purpose. Is there a specific grade that I should be looking for, what about brand? I have also read that Choji Oil is good too.

Thanks

I was going to recommend mineral oil as well. You can google "food grade mineral oil" for some ideas as to where to get it. You can get it at drug stores. Mineral oil is interesting stuff - a by-product of petroleum distillation that can be consumed in small quantities. I like mine in the form of baby oil or WD-40, though not for internal use.

Mineral oil being a laxative, wouldn't that make one sick if the blade was used on food ?

You could look into it, but I suspect that one would have to consume a tablespoon or more for the laxative effect. The teeny weeny amount you would apply to the blade and pivot would be insignificant, and even then only a fractional amount of that would be x-ferred to your food.

CQC, Yes, but I didn't realize you wanted to drink it . I thought you just wanted a food grade lubricant and were intending to use a very small amount . Which does not cause one to run for the nearest bush . :) DM

Haha thanks guys. I guess the amount wouldn't be significant enough. Picked some up from the pharmacy, but could only get heavy grade, which is quite thick. Seems to do the job though.

I would recommend baby oil. I also use it on stag and bone handled knives to prevent them from drying out.
