Looking for a Forging Press

I've started my search for a forging press, trying to educate myself before buying. I'm not much interested in making one if I don't have to. I've found two places so far that make them including Uncle Al. Can anyone give me any feedback on "must haves" and "what to avoid". And if anyone has recommendations on suppliers I be very interested also, thanks.

I have used both the Carlisle and the Claiborne. They are both excellent machines and I don't think you would be disappointed with either.

That said, when it came time to spend my own money, I went with the Claiborne. Carlisle is now farming out fabrication of their presses and I feel there is a bit too much flex in the press for certain operations. Claiborne builds his himself in his shop, the design has next to zero flex, and it comes with four sets of dies included in the price (that could be close to $1,000 saved, BTW)

Hope this helps,

John

From building mine since I basicly built it like Ron's I can recomend his press. Mine has absolutly no flex.

I tried out a friends that has one of Uncle Al's, and it was OK, but I like a hand valve rite now better.
