Please help, I looking for a very dressy gentlemen folder I can carry while wearing a suit. Something if I pull it out people will be more impressed with its classy look, instead of be horrified by it being a knife. Price needs to be under $500.00 and any photos would be appreciated.

Thanks -Ron

Look into some of the Mcusta's, they have some very sharp knives with nice wood handles. A very classy looking knife. Plus you can get one for below $200.

Under $500? You could get a pretty nice custom folder for that. Just about any of the non-uber-art ones that I can think of, for that matter. Production-wise, William Henry at the high end, Gold-class Benchmades in the middle, and Mcusta or Spyderco at the lower end.

Somebody's gotta say it: Sebenza.

I second William Henry knives, for the high end.

You might also consider the Benchmade 690 for a lot less. It's been discontinued, but there should still be more than a few floating around at retailers.

You might want to consider a nice Chris Reeve Mnandi. Check out the William Henry website also, as was mentioned earlier.

You cannot go wrong with a Chris Reeve Mnandi. Absolutely perfect fit and finish, and a variety of beautiful handle materials.

try and find a maserin damascus spirit-got mine last week -wow what a looker and very well bulit-you should be able to find one with a yahoo search for $150 or less-i lucked out on ebay and won mine for $91-
mcusta's look nice as do xikar's-

with your budget you can find quite a few custom gems also-saw some great looking stuff at the les voorhies web sight

imho damascus is the only blade type for a dress knife-lol

Here are a few suggestions:

You may want to check out a Small Classic Sebenza, plain handled or an inlay version. or a Mnandi.
Both are pretty classy looking, and of course the Mnandi is the classier of the 2.

You could then grab a Tradional folder as well. You may want to check out either a nice 70's model of the Case Whittler. A light bone color looks really nice with a dark suit, and you could grab a darker bone handle for your lighter suits.

Or instead of the older Case, you could grab either a Bulldog, or a German Eye brand, either in a stockman or a whittler, and still have a killer blade. (the germans's are my pick over any cases other than the older models.)

Long story short, you could grab either the classic Seb or the Mnandi, + a Case or 2, or a Boker/ German eye or 2 and still be under your price range, or grab a SAK.

Been in a couple of meetings where someone had dropped something small down in their key pad on their Lap top, and the tweezers on the SAK saved the day, and they are very sheeple friendly.

Or, another really classy smaller clip carry knife you could get to go with your Seb/ Mnandi would be the Spyderco Cricket.

Classy looking, and small enough to double as a money clip.

When I wear a suit, I like the Small Seb / SAK cobo myself. :)

I would suggest a Cris Reeves Mnandi, or one of the inlayed Sebbies, and my final suggestion would be William Henry!

Another thought are Mokis with stunning fit and finish and incredible appearance.

One objection of most gent's knives is opening them. I like the Kopa because it can be opened one-handed and still I think it is very classy looking.

BM made a lot of LE 960 knives, some with shell and mother of pearl inlays, some with wood inlays--beautiful but very hard to come by.

Their gold class knives are semi-custom at least. But if you could geta CRK that would be awesome!

Or you could get just about any folder and have custom handles made -- this would be a beautiful knife, a one-of-a-kind, and you could even design the handle yourself. Check this out.

http://www.chaxknives.com/ and look under Customized Jobs--he has a Gallery of about 80 handles he has made. He will email you a quote on using wide varieites of woods, G10, Micarta, CF, ivory, and so on...

I have a BM 710 with custom handles he made from ironwood and Carbon Fiber.....http://chaxknives.com/031Benchmade710.html
I got it from its original ownwer....

Chase does amazing work and you could use your imagination and get 2 or 3 re-handled BMs for your price range! ;)

One of the button lock William and Henry folders in ZDP189 blade steel is about as good as it gets in my opinion. These are some high quality well built folders that certainly give eye appeal or pocket jewelry appeal as well as function to any gentlemans pocket and life style. You get a super looking knife in just the right size for the sheeple out there, a great blade steel that will hold its edge with the best of them and you don't see these knives in every pocket. What else could you want?

Thanks for all the replies, I thnking of more of a slipjoint. I'm a lefty and really dont like frame locks because there not left hand friendy.

Most of my knife experiences is around wilderness fix-blade type knives

Thanks - Ron

Ron,
P.J.TOMES,109X,nice little 2 blade slip,main blade locks,jigged bone-$450.Wait time,?,but try on-line purveyors,you might get lucky.Yep,knifeart has one!

There are some left handed/ambidextrous lock blade knives out there and, if you're not interested in this type, well, you should be. Today's modern lock blade knife such as the William Henry, Chris Reeve, etc will open so effortlessly that you will find yourself reaching for it more often that you have reached for a knife in the past. You will discover usages for a knife that you didn't previously know existed. And, every time you reach for it will be a joy. Even sitting around marveling over their fit, function and elegance will bring a newfound joy - and a newfound appetite for adding yet more to your collection ( this can be good or bad depending on your finances).
