hello, im new to this forum. im looking for a 7 inch fixed blade in the 100 or less price range. my top 3 right now are the bk7, the rat7, or the recon scout! any opinion will be greatly appreciated. any other suggestions would be great too, thank you

I have the Rat 7. I'm sure the vote will go to BK7. All you"ve listed would be good choices. I got a couple of Buck Ron Hood Punk's that i really like too. Got the used one for $60 and the new one for $80. Their blade lenegth is only 5.6" though.Maybe look for Buck Thug new or used $100 or under 5160 steel 7" blade.

bk-7 is great....but if you do a lot of chopping the recon scout might serve you better

If it is general field use without a ton of chopping go for the bk-7

probably not going to do lots of chopping, small saplings maybe. got my big bad timber rattler western outlaw bowie for that!

My vote would be the RAT7. Having owned a BK7, RAT7, and Recon Scout, in my opinion the RAT7 is the most functional. The BK7 second, and the Recon Scout third. For a knife in the 7 inch range, the choil on the RAT7 makes it very handy to choke up on the blade to do finer tasks, the drop point won't chew up batons as readily as the other clip point blades. The full guard on the Recon Scout just gets in the way. If you opt for the RAT7, you will most likely have to do a little filing on the handle slabs to make them feel more comfortable in your hand, and this is where the BK7 is better. Handle ergos on the BK7 are the best, but you would have to spend the extra 45+/- dollars to get micarta, and the RAT7 comes with micarta. Another consideration against the Recon Scout is the rubbery kraton handle. Mine deteriorated under a summer of moderate use, still a solid blade despite some drawbacks. Another consideration for some is the tangs. The RAT7 has a full unskeletonized tang, the BK7 is a full sketeltonized tang, and the Recon Scout is a hidden tang. All the knives are solid choices.

Bk7……

Bk7, you won't be disappointed

Agreed! Sorry I don't have a better pic for you... maybe more soon.

Ontario RD7. That would be my choice and I have used the knives you are considering extensively.

One other thing to consider when choosing, if you choose the BK7, is that here on Bladeforums you will find a very knowledgable and helpful Becker support group including Mr. Ethan Becker himself. You won't find as much love for the RAT7 or the Recon Scout.
