First off I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I'm in the market for as good hawk that wont cost an arm and a leg.

I'm looking for a hawk that's not too long. Basically no longer the SOG hawk (sorry I don't have the specific length off the top of my head) and with a back spike and a decent beard on it. Something lightweight and well balanced. I'm not too picky about steel as long as its tough.

I'm trying to keep this no higher then $120 but I'm flexible with price as long as its not too crazy.

Thank you all for your time and help.

P.S. I would go after one of the CS hawks but that would be more of a project for me and as of now I don't have the time for anything like that

H&B Forge.

Their standard handle length is 19" but if you want it shorter, you can easily adjust the handle length using a saw.

^Thank you. I like there straight spike design and its defiantly on my list now. I still would like to see some other options. if the crkt kangee just had a straight, simple handle like the SOG hawk or like a wooden handle hawk I'd be all over it.

I picked up a KDSH on the secondary market for less than $200 with sheath. So far I have been very impressed with it. I think the VTAC is also a good option.

Thank you all. I've found that the CRKT Kangee or Chogan might be my best bet. I can't really seem to find much else that appeals to me outside the browning hawk but that might be too heavy with its all steel construction.

Do you want something more tactical/modern or more traditional? I have a hammer poll hawk from H&B that is incredible. I'd also suggest beaver bill for the traditional look. I'm definitely favoring hand forged products atm

Honeslty I go back and forth between the 2. right now I'm leaning more towards tactical. I really like the RMJ beserker but that's WAY out of my price range

Do you want it more for breaching/work or for combat?

Where I'm living right now I cannot posses a firearm so Ive become accustomed to keeping my SOG hawk next to my bed as a home defense tool so in a way I want it for combat but at the same time I don't want to drop a whole bunch of cash on something that would probably (hopefully) never be used. So I would also like it to be more utilitarian. Since I don't have any doors I need to bust open or car windows I need to break it would see a magority of its use in the woods. On that fact although I wouldn't mind having some breaching, maybe even prying ability's either. If its lite enough it would find a spot in my multi day camping/B.O.B. since the area I live in is urban but dose have large expanses of wilderness dotted amoungst it. I would stick with the SOG but i just do not trust it to stand up to years of use and I'm not a fan of the steel too much either.

I have noticed the CRKT woods hawks are out on amazon but I can't seem to find any reviews on them. So they are also an option now as well.

People forget that in frontier times, traditional tomahawks WERE tactical tools/weapons in their day.

^very true my friend. I guess its more of an aesthetic appeal. :D. I've alwaysed loved the look of the viking style bearded axes.
