Im looking for recommendations for a good all around hunting and outdoors knife with a 5 to 6 inch blade in the $100 to $150 doller price zone. i would prefer high carbon steel. any type of sheath is good as long is there is no bloody Velcro!l lol. thanks for any reply's

BK16? If you're willing to go stainless, try a Buck 120.

My personal favorite is the Chris Reeve Nyala, but it's made of stainless and costs $230.

I agree with Fish Boy, a Becker tweener (BK15, 16, or 17) or a Buck if your going stainless.

With your budget you have higher end options, but a great all around hunting knife that meets your requirements is the tried and true Buck 119. It's my all American, sentimental favorite.

I also love the bk16 recommendation, and it will be my next purchase, but something about the 119 has always spoken to me.

Go to the knifemakers exchange here on the forum and support some local talent. You really can get more knife for your money in my opinion.

BK-16 is only 4 3/8".

Quite a bit shorter than the 5-6" range SteelandStuff is looking for, but is a great choice...I have two of them. Pics below of stock grips and optional micarta. The micarta and a nice kydex sheath will drive the price up into your range. I really do like this knife. A favorite that I prefer to the competition. Sorry so many pics, a boring Friday night around here!

This is my favorite:

If you want a longer blade you could always go for the S1 instead.

The Kabar Becker BK-15 is one of my favorites and I recommend it for a general purpose outdoor blade including hunting chores. However, the factory sheath does have a pouch on it with velco. I would keep a SAK in the pouch personally.

Take a look at the Blackjack 125. It is on of my favorite general purpose woods blades. They are made by Bark River for Blackjack. It runs at about your budget limit.

I think a 5-6" blade is a bit long for cleaning game.
Hope you find what you want.

I like a 3-4" blade for hunting chores and something about like I recommended for skinning. But the longer blades are more flexible if you are nimble.

A 5 to 6" inch blade is actually my least favorite size knife, especially for hunting. It's not easy to reach inside a gut cavity and make the cuts you need to with a knife that size.

Here are a couple more pictures of BK16s with aftermarkert scales from TKC and AzWelke sheaths. I'll be out in the woods with my knives in a few hours...much more fun than looking at pictures!! Lots of great knives around...a custom by a bladeforum maker would be wonderful also.

If you really want a blade that big, ESEE-6 or LaserStrike are excellent knives. The LS comes with one of the best kydex sheaths on the market, it's that good.

I would recommend the ESEE-LS over anything else in the price range, it has a 5" blade and the handle is extremely versatile.

If you can spend a few more dollars, Fallkniven and Bark River make excellent outdoors knives.
