Hey all, this is my first post. Excellent forum! I'm sure this has been asked hundreds of times but, I'm looking for a good edc knife. I have about 5 knives at the moment. Including Buck, Spyderco and Kershaw. My main knife is my Kershaw Leek. I love this knife, but I am looking for something a little stronger. I want a folder, cost around 50-75 dollars. I'm on a budget. I have looked at the Benchmade stuff and the CK@T line and like a lot of these knifes. Any recommendations? Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the Forums doom. Quite a few knives out there that are around your budgetary allowance. Could you specify the length of blade you'd like to have for a user???

I'm sure that would help guys out in giving you a hand with some choices to research...

something a little stronger than the leek...???

BM mini-grip...

or spyderco endura...

Depending on the length of blade that you're looking for, I'd recommend either the Spyderco VG10 Delica or the larger Endura. Don't let the FRN handles fool you, these two are real workhorses that can be depended on when they are needed.

The CRKT M16 series in aluminum, titanium or zytel, BM Griptilian, Cold Steel RECON 1 and Voyager series, Camillus EDC, and Spyderco Police and Native all fit your criteria and are well priced. It would really take more information to help narrow down some good options.

Take a look around here for a good selection if you'd like http://www.1sks.com/store/

Welcome to the forums!

these are all great suggestions. i would second the Endura as an EDC choice. i own an SS Endura and 2 Leeks, and swap them all out often. the Endura is great, and sits very similar to the Leek. picked mine up for $55 shipped. i would also recommend one of the M16 EDC versions. i've got the spearpoint plain edge, and it's a real dandy!

abe m.

Imo in that price range you can't go wrong with a BM griptilian. I think theres a limited edition D2 blade version of the griptilian for around the 70 range. Imo with the D2 blade, the griptilian beats out all comparably priced knives in terms of lock, handle, quality, and blade.

How about checking around the For Sale forums on various knife sites? You can pick up something nice for that price range...just recently a CE S30V Military sold for $65.

For my koney the BM griptilian is the finest moderate-cost working folder that I am aware of.

Get the D2 if you need the latest and greatest, but the 440C has worked out just fine for me.

I agree that the Benchmade 550 or 551 Griptilian is probably your best best bet and is stronger than the Leek.

As for the Delica and the Endura...
This might ruffle some feathers, but I'm not even convinced that the FRN Delica or the FRN Endura are stronger than the Leek.

Maybe the blade of the Endura is stronger because it is thicker, but the Leek's all steel handle and frame-lock makes it very strong indeed.

Good luck,
Allen.

Spyderco Delica, Endura or Native III

Benchmade Mini-Griptillian and Griptillians series.

(hope it's all spelt right)

Thanks guys, I have been looking at the Benchmade models and the CRKT M16 and the Ryan 7 I think it is caught my attention. I just bought a Becker Campanion the other day. Still waiting for it to arrive. I take it the Kershaw Leek I own is a pretty good knife. I have a Spyderco Delica and Endura. I must say Spyderco has Great serivce, I broke the plastic clips off of both these knives and they were repaired for free. But, as we all know one can never have enough sharp things. So, I am in the market for something different.

Hey Doom,

I would agree whole-heartedly with most of the responses above, but I thought I'd add my current favorite as well. If you look around on the discount sites, you should be able to find a CRKT Tighe Tac for under $50 with no problem.

I've had mine for quite a while, and I have no real complaints so far. I interchange that and my Leek, for the most part, and there's nothing I've needed it to do that it's failed.

The one bad point it that the handle can get a bit annoying with extended use. The angles of the handle aren't the most conducive to a comfortable grip.

On the plus side, it's a damn elegant knife.
