Looking for a good scout knife

I'm looking for a boyscout knife (or under any name with same basic blades), and need some advice as far as who makes a good knife with decent steel. I prefer carbon but stainless is okay. Also, looking at the case website, they mention jr. scout for theirs. If there is a bigger version that isn't jr. I would prefer it. Basically I'm looking for names of quality makers or brands who make these so i can start looking for one.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Look for older, used knives. Better than the ones being made today.

This one's made by Camillus.

Hi!

There are also some good scout knives out there, made by Hartkopf, Solingen, Germany. I own one, with wooden handles. I carry it from time to time. Gonna take a pic, when you want.

Kind regards
Andi

There are several older brands out there for not a whole lot of money if you look around.

These Ulsters can be found for a decent price:

As previously mentioned, Rough Rider makes a nice one if you want brand new:

Schatt & Morgan if you don't want a Bail:

Case did make a large Scout pattern years ago. 6445 pattern I think but I'm not sure.

A.G. Russell made a Premium Scout that was really nice but they are a bit hard to find.

There are plenty of other older brands out there in good shape. With a little searching, you shouldn't have any trouble finding one you like.

If you shop around on the bay or hit up a few flea markets, you could definitely find older Scout knives. Currently, Case makes a Junior Scout. Handled it at the Case factory, and it was very nice and not too small.

Boker's Sportsmesser in stag is nice - but spendy It is in 440C. I like it a lot - gettable in 'smoked' oak too - not so good steel tho

Bulldog have one (made by GEC I think now)

I always liked the look of the orange G10 Case one

There is a nice Weidmannsheil available at the moment too

The alox Victorinox can't be beat.

+1 Even though they aren't traditional looking. If you like the more traditional scout pattern, i would look on the 'bay for old camillus scout knives.
As for traditional scout knives made today, still haven't found many decent ones unfortunately.

I just picked up a almost mint 5 blade Delux Boy Scout Knife made by Camillus from an online dealer. they have a pretty good selection of older scout knives made by many makers. many other slipjoints also. this is the fourth or fifth knife i've gotten here and the dealings have been A+

Vendor link removed.

The Victorinox Alox Soldier is an awesome Scout knife,no longer made, but can be found.Wenger(owned by Victorinox)makes the SI,which is,more or less,an alox Soldier with a bail.

The Victorinox Alox Pioneer is the same as the Soldier model but with a bail
If SAKs are trad slipjoints, then these are trad Scout knives

It is availiable in different color scales
I have one in black, it is very classy

The Farmer comes with the same four blades and a bail plus a saw

Personally, I'm a sucker for the old Camillus carbon steel knives. They can be found in abundance on the big auction site. You could buy several scout patterns for the price of a new Case (which may only be available in stainless).

I'm a fan of the 3 blade Cub Scout pattern, as I rarely have a need for the can opener. The Boy Scout and demo knives are both 4 bladed.

With that being said, the Victorinox Farmer is also a great camp knife. It's basically a scout pattern with the addition of a very useful saw blade.

Here is a picture of a Camillus that show up on the internet now and then.

Weidmannsheil issued one in carbon/stag.

Bulldog put out one in carbon with some appealing acrylic scales.

The RR one in stainless is not to be sneered at either.

I can answer your question. The scout knife to collect is only on sale at the Las Vegas Area Council office. Their phone number is: 702-968-8123. For the 100th anniversary of Boy Scouts they commissioned a special Boy Scout knife. The knife is a Ken Onion design and has a stainless steel Damascus blade forged by Thomas Damascus. It is a 100th anniversary knife. It is an officially licenced boy scout knife and is the first time in history that a boy scout knife has been offered with a Damascus blade. There were only 300 made. 150 of those 300 has the Las Vegas Area council logo in addition to the 100th anniversary logo on the knife (so you have 2 choices) The price is only $195 and there are only a few left from what I understand.
