I'm deploying in a couple months and I am in need of a good reliable fixed blade! I am an 11b so I use it for about everything! I need a thicker blade for prying but also need good edge. I really want a horizontal mount sheath to be included. Any suggestions?

I'll throw a different suggestion than most at you: CRKT Razel SS7. Seriously. BTW, an 11b?

He's infantry. The Cold Steel SRK is a good choice. You can rig it to mount horizontally.

The Cold Steel SRK is a good suggestion but I would go with an ESEE, either a 4 or 6 depending on what size you prefer.

I've a Don Shepley H.D. hunter, in 5160. Drop me a line. I don't know if he is making blades anymore due to health problems but this is bomb proof and I shite you not. keepem sharp

kersaw ZT - find the style and steel that suits your uses

go too good store that stocks and try out, not doubt bench made is good choice - i am not big chris reeves fan, high prices for massed produced imho. i love spyderco steel design i hate that stupid loop too deploy the blade. big hands no fit!

so check out the blades in person or buy 2 cheaper ones - pick up a rat1 as spare!

IF you want a knife you can pry with, as you stated, then I highly recommend the ESEE 5. It's also a decent knife for a heavy brute. Contact ESEE via email through their site for mil./LEO program info. After a bit of deliberation, I concluded the HEST design was perfect for hanging on a vest. It has a prybar (for light prying) built in to keep the blade for cutting and it's light and small enough to fit in a cargo pocket, sheath and all. Plus, it has a bottle opener in case you stumble across a case of Dos XX in the desert and can figure out no other way to open them;) ESEE no longer makes the HEST, but OKC and DPX Gear (Lionsteel) do. One site had them discounted about 25%. You may find the ESEE 5 a bit much to carry around. Mine rides in the truck, though I do like it a lot. Be safe.

Tactical fixed blades are overrated. Get a multitool.

I'm with sideways...the vast majority of people who have served and who do serve who are members here suggest a multitool. They also point out that the multitool is mainly used for opening MREs and playing with.

What are you expecting to do with this tactical fixed blade? Maybe your expectations are beyond what they need to be?

If you insist in bringing your own fixed blade, I wouldn't go any bigger or heavier than a BK-17.
