Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone out there makes a decent take down survival rifle that fires a cartridge around .30 caliber. I've looked at both the Marlin Papoose and Henry survival rifles and have to say that I think well of both, but would prefer something with a little more ooomph behind it. If anyone could recommend something it would be much appreciated.

They make the Browning BLR in a take down now. I have a non-take down in 30-06. might fit the bill.

Any of the break action single shots, from T/C, CVA, and New England Firearms could be considered take down rifles or shotguns.

Contender Carbine in .30-30, 16" barrel, synthetic stocks. My 7-30 Waters weighs in about 5 1/2 lbs. with a 4x scope. I also have a .223 barrel. They are light, easy to handle, and I find them steady to aim.

"I wonder if Marlin or Winchester still make takedown leveraction .30/30s."

Just remove the rear stock screw of the Marlin 336. Email me and I'll send a pic of someone's briefcase hunting kit (336, MKII, & knife).

Back in WI I'd use the Marlin (30-30), out here in CO a Browning BLR in 30-06 would help deal with longer shots. You can get both in stainless if you like.

Winchester currently makes some very beautiful take-down lever guns but they are expensive. If uour budget allows it they are very satisfying to own.

On the cheaper end there are the single shot rifles by Rossi and H&R but they are single shot and to me they are not very satisfying.

An option could be an AK47 with a folding wire stock or underfolder. With 16" barrel they are compact.

the new browing sounds great. if you have time & patience savage made some fantastic mdl.99 levers in take down a long time back. if one can be located at a reasonable price it's a go. even a bad barrell can be replaced by a gunsmith if the action is good & initial purchase price is low.--dennis

First off, Thanks to whichever Mod moved this to the appropriate forum. Secondly, Thanks to everyone for their recommendations. I do like the BLR especially the fact that it can be had in anything from .223 to .30-06.

Wild West Guns makes or I should say customises and offers the Alaskan Co-Pilot--in .30-.30 for $2K
