Howdy, 1st thread, 1st post, go easy on me....

(and please feel free to move this if the thread belongs somewhere else)

I am looking for the perfect (think a really picky Goldilocks) rope / hook / rescue knife. I already have a nice little Boker, and a Remington auto. One is too small, the other too bulky and doesn't clip.

I said go easy on me, because I found a cheapy / low quality knife I really like the design of.... M-Tech Angler Karambit Rescue Knife MT281

as seen here: http://www.greyeagletrader.com/custom/cart/edit.asp?p=128731

a buddy has one, I've handled it, it is the perfect size, it has the belt clip, it's thin.... I just want a better, sharper, longer lasting version.

Usually these cheapy imports steal designs, is this a copy of a good knife?

As an aside, I'm open to other suggestions (please post links) to other slim, mid sized DEDICATED hook / rope knives.

  • I don't need a "regular" blade.
  • It has to cut 5/16" rope in the hook.
  • It must be safe for use "on" people, like cutting webbing and rope away from people.

I am NOT interested in "tools" like a gut hook, or shears, I'm trying to be a "gear nerd" and "cool factor" does play a part in the selection process. :D

Thanks in advance....

Spyderco Tasman Salt. Hookbill, H1 steel will never rust, light FRN handle and you can get it in yellow or blue for better visibility. If you fear the tip for rescue work, round it off.

Thanks, I've looked at or handled several like that. They make great knives.

But I need something with a hook where the blade can't get to "flat" skin, the Spyderco won't work.

how about the gerber LMFII safety cutter...

It doesn't have a hook, but the Spyderco Assist might work. I just got mine today, and it's great. The blunted tip is safe for people, and if all you need the hook for is cutting rope, the Assist will do that just fine. It's designed so you can put rope between the blade and finger grooves and squeeze the back of the blade to cut it.

hope this isn't considered deal spotting, but knife works have a great selection of rescue knives here

Yuhp, I already have one of those (in red) and love it. It's just a little small, so I am looking at other options.

It IS really nice though. Right along what I am talking about, thanks.

how about the blackhawk hawk hook?

Yeah, I've been looking at that one lately. Looks pretty good.

Anyone know if THIS is out yet?

Benchmade 915S-ORG Triage Rescue Knife 3.5" Satin Combo Blade, Orange G10 Handles, Safety Cutter, Glass Breaker

I know I said I didn't need a regular blade, but if it's thin overall, it would be nice. That thing looks like the perfect tool.

Where can I find one?
