Looking for a great wallet

By "great", I mean one that simply will not get worn out or break at the joints over time.

I must have gone through at least 15 wallets in my lifetime. I have yet to come across an indestructible one.

Most leather wallets start to come apart after several years. I usually carry mine in the back pocket. After several years of walking around with it, or sitting on chairs, benches, floors, etc, the wallet will start showing its age.

My present one is already beginning to display signs of terminal wear.
So I am looking for another one that will not die on me anytime soon.

Any good wallet suggestions?

I got fed up with what's out there, or shall I say what's NOT out there. I have the problem of my credit cards cracking at the junction where the pocket ends. I've been looking for eons for a hard sided wallet, but nobody makes one. My solution....
I'm gonna have Kenny Rowe make me one! Why didn't I think of that before? I'll let ya'all know when it comes to be.

Hey, golok, you might want to check out Filson. I've not used one of their wallets, but if they are built to the same standards as their coats and hats, they should be pretty indestructable (and expensive.)

After hearing about it here, I asked for this wallet for Christmas....nice, big, no nonsense tought wallet. I liked the idea of all the upfront credit card slots instead of the cheap plastic flip book thing that my current wallet...had (now it's all worn out).

I picked one of those up recently. I love it! It is indestructable!

I wear out wallets fast. The last one was a $17 cheapie that only made it a year before it was coming apart. The Rolfs wallets I've had usually lasted a couple of year, but showed alot of wear.
I got a D&B Train Pass wallet a year ago. Aside from a crease at one corner (where it follows my shape:)), and a tiny amount of wear at the corners that go in the pocket first, it looks just like it did when new.

Stingrayskin is some super tough stuff! I really overload my wallet, and it takes a while before the edges start to wear. Still havent actually worn one out yet.

I've been carrying my Spec-Ops "T.H.E. Wallet" for about 8 months now, and it STILL looks new.

i'll second K Williams' Bosca suggestion.
i've had one now for at least 5 yrs and it's still going strong.
the leather gets smoother and softer w/ use.
however, i'd also like to try a filson or coach.

I received a Filson wallet for Christmas a couple years ago and have carried it daily since then. It shows virtually zero wear and I'm sure it's going to continue to be "worth the money". Highly recommended. ;)

They make a couple models and I have the smaller of the two. It's very convenient and has individual pockets for various cards, etc. The larger model has even more pockets and they use the same very high quality leather in both.

In the last wallet thread that we had a few months ago, it was suggested that nylon and zippers on a wallet are a huge fashion faux pax. I guess that makes me crude, uncouth, and unfashionable, because my wallet has not just one, but two zippers. And has Velcro. And is made of Cordura Nylon. And I like it...;) :)

Seriously, I had the same problem, so I switched to Eagle Creek. My model is no longer made, but they have several similar models. Here is an example:

My wallet cost about $12-$15 and has lasted for years with no appreciable wear except for the outer flap getting a little bent upwards at the corners.

It was mentioned once before, Coach. They are expensive but come with a lifetime guarantee. It tears they either repair what you have or give you a replacement. You get tired of the wallet before anything tears.

How do you decide which one to buy when you can't see them in person?

I found both Coach and Dooney & Bourke in the local shopping mall but, they only had female items in stock. All the mens billfolds were the standard cheap flimsy stuff you normally expect to find at the mass merchandisers. :(

I will also recommend Coach. I just bought myself one a month ago, and am very happy with it. So far no signs of wear at all. I was lucky enough to ind a good sale, and got a nice billfold wallet with id pocket for about $50!:D Considering my previous wallet was just about falling apart after a couple of years, and I paid like $20 for it, I consider this a great buy, from what I have heard Coach leather lasts forever.

I have used a lot of Eagle Creek gear over the years and not a single item has ever worn out on me. I carried their Tri-Fold Wallet for several years, with no signs of wear. My only reason for retiring it was that I wanted to try the Spec-Ops T.H.E. Wallet. It seems to be holding up perfectly so far.

I can understand the folks who want the look of leather, but from a functional point of view modern materials are a whole lot more resistant to wear.

I'm going for the Spec Ops THE Wallet. Very tough, as close to indestructable as you will find.
Happy Holidays,
Matt
