I've been having trouble finding one....Heres what it needs to have

3" or less blade
I would prefer some type of handle other that stainless steel or aluminum.
Less than $100

So far I've looked at

Spyderco Tasman Salt - I kinda liked it, but not sure about the H1 blade.
Emerson Karambit - Love it out of my price range.

By the way, knife will be for self defense, so edge retention isn't a must.

Can anyone help me out?

Outdoors Fanatic - I really don't like the stainless steel handle.

ulgah - I already have a crossbill, but the blade 3.5" and I can't carry that. I wish I could. :(

spyderco merlin, same spec as the harpy but the resin-impregnated plastic type handle, dunno what it is. hard to find without the serrations though, if that matters.

I've owned my Spydie Tasman Salt for 1.5 years now, I have the plain blade with yellow FRN scales. Keep it in the office for opening boxes and cartons etc and have easily touched-up the blade on my Sharpmaker to hair popping sharpness.

The yellow FRN camouflages it in plain sight and I have never startled anyone when I whip it out for some cutting shore. Nobody is afraid of a tool, -which is what it is of course.

I would absolutely use this for SD purposes if my state had folder length limitations (I carry anything from CRKT, Benchmade to my Spydie Civilian and Yojimbo).

I don't know what your reservations are concerning H-1. If you like rust, it definitely is not the steel you want. If you like poor edge-holding or fragile blades that must be treated like glass, forget about H-1. But if you want something that can take a beating and come back for more, something that won't rust even if it gets full of blood and has to be washed out in seawater, well H-1 is worth the cost.

You must be referring to the Boker Subclaw. Handled in standard FRN (potterma offers wood burl and G-10 handles as well), strong framelock with little to no blade play, AUS-8 cleans up faster than anything I have ever maintained.

I can't help you with the choice between those models as I know nothing about them. I just ordered a Spyderco Superhawk, though.
