Looking for a high carbon damascus maker

So I've been kicking around an idea in my head for a while and I had a forge in mind to supply the steel because I liked his work. I contacted Deer Mountain yesterday about purchasing the billets I need and Mr Barr informed me he is not taking outside orders currently which means I'm back out shopping for a new source.

Devin Thomas make gorgeous patterns but his stuff is stainless damascus and because of the application I have in mind I really need a higher carbon content. Craig Barr of Deer Mountain Forge uses 1095 and 15n20 for his billets and had several patterns unlike anything I've seen prior which is why I wanted to buy from him so suffice to say I'm very disappointed.

Here's what I'm looking to buy in case anybody is curious. I want seven billets appx 1x6x0.25 inches in seven different damascus patterns. Yes I know all damascus is different but I don't want 7 pieces of twist. I'm thinking a twist, a ladder, a rain drop, and I was going to put in a gator back and a leopard from Craig Barr but now I'm open to suggestions. Anybody know somplace I could get this for a good price?

Unless something has changed Devin Thomas makes tons of non-stainless high carbon damascus.

Chris Marks, Chuck Hawes and Delbert Ealy come to mind also.

Wow...how did I miss that on his site?! YEESH!!! I just calculated what it'd cost for the steel for my project and it's not pretty. In fact it comes closer to what I had in mind for the entire project cost!

Also it appears Devin isn't offering his exotic patterns like sharks tooth and fire storm in large enough dimensions which makes it difficult as well. Maybe I'll contact those other makers if I decide to pursue this...it's just such a long shot already.

I have 18 patterns listed on my site, so no problem with the choice. I can make 1x6x.250.

I don't even know what to say...WOW! Mr. Ealy you may have just found yourself an order!!! No seriously those patterns are fantastic! And as if the patterns weren't enough your prices are right about what I intended to spend as well.

My only concern however is the materials because I'm not very familiar with metalurgy. I've put out a couple of feelers in the right direction towards what I'm wanting but I'm not sure anyone is going to know enough. I DO know that ATS34 is used in the particular application I have in mind and other allows such as S30V have been suggested. I BELIEVE those to be more in the stainless category but the most common steel for this is the high carbon end.

Would the combination of the L6 and pure nickel present a problem at the blades edge due to the different materials involved hardening differently? I realize this will probably sounds very strange as most knives wouldn't have that aspect to worry about but my intention is to use the steel in full hollow ground straight razors which would have extremely thin cutting edges as appropriate to their intended use. How do YOU think your damascus would perform in comparison to the steels mentioned? And again I'm terribly sorry that I'm not of more help but I'm not into metals and neither is the group I am in regarding straight razors...

BTTT for the amazing Mr Ealy!! Even my wife sounded ok with the expenditure for this!

Devin can make something in just about any size, those are just the sizes listed. Of course, you already said that his prices are too high for your project, so I guess it doesn't matter.
