Hi, I am pretty green to the knife world. I have browsed these and other knife sites looking for just the right thing for my grandpa.

I want to get him a three blade folder with a really nice wood (ironwood, blackwood) handle.
Similar to this Buck
He's been using something similar for a million years, and has filed it down to a toothpick so I'd like to get him a nice one that can be passed down perhaps.
I'd like to spend around $100 or so. I have browsed a few of the more popular shops like Queen Cutlery, Great Eastern, Buck, etc. But haven't found just the right one. I found one of the boone & crockett Bucks on ebay for a decent price, so I might pick it up if nothing better comes along.

Bonus points if there could be a small metal plate on the handle for engraving.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

GEC recently had a run of 3 blade stockman, with some nice wood handle options, the shields are blank, so you could get them engraved if you like

If you want stainless steel, Canal Street Cutlery makes a 4 inch stockman with reclaimed American Chestnut handles and 440C steel

There is also the Kabar Dogs Head version (same knife as above, but with different shield and Kabar branding), I own this one and it's a fine knife

I would try to match the brand, blade grind (hollow or flat) and blade material (carbon or stainless).

If he's used the same one faithfully, it may end up just hating the new one because it's the wrong grind or blade material.

Those are lovely, I am currently trying to navigate their site(s) to try and get a closer look.

Looks great I will check these out. What is the difference between stainless, and other options..?

I agree to an extent, but to be honest this would be less of a daily driver, and more of a symbol of the old timer's style that he likes.

Along with these suggestions ( all good knives ) , take a look at the Case website.
Stay tuned, you will probably have a few more ideas to think about in the next couple hours.
You are putting some thought into this and that is a good thing.
The knife you give your Grandfather will be the right one in his eyes.

So do I...I have a Northfield w/ African Blackwood. I do wish it had half stops. Hope the OP sees this. It is one SWEEEET stockman.

Tom

Hey, yeah I have pretty much decided on an Abilene. The orange wood looks nice but blackwood might be better.
Any suggestions on where to get one from? (Non BF dealer member) has free shipping to Canada, so i am looking there.
Thanks again for all the good suggestions!
