I want to make a ferrule for a knife with a stag type handle from a solid piece of wrought iron. In other words I need to somehow bore a hole and then fit the stag to it! I want the hole close to size, so that I don't have to do a lot of fitting on the antler. I don't want the stag to look sized down if possible!
I borrowed this image from another post to illustrate what I was trying to accomplish.

I am looking for a way to do this perhaps on a drill press. The largest bit I have is 1/2" so if I try to bore a hole and enlarge it to 1" approxamtely. Well that looks like a recipe for disaster.
Any thoughts on how to do this?
