Looking for a In-expensive left hand folder for a gift

A friend of mine recently expressed that she wanted a knife for general tasks, and if possible self defense. She goes to night school and is often alone in dark parking lots. She carries pepper spray but wanted something else to carry with it.
So I went an bought a few cheap folders. I bought a Kershaw Scamp, a Kershaw Cyclone, and a kershaw scallion. I would have spent more but I've been un-employed for a long time so I can't afford much. At any rate I gave her the knives to look at only to be told that she is left handed making all the knives I have uncomfortable to her.

So, I'm now looking for suggestions for relatively in-expensive, abmi/left handed folders around 3-3.5"

Benchmade Axis Locks are ambi. So are Spyderco lockbacks. It all depends on what "relatively inexpensive" means. The Victorinox One Hand Trekker has a lefty liner lock and can be had for under $30.

try the spyderco endura, slightly over 3 1/2 inches and a lockback, i think its around 3.4 oz. clip can be attached to all corners, tip up or down left or right. plan edge, part ser, and ser and its available in different colors steels and i think theres an all black version. vg-10 and i thing zdp steels are available, theres a salt model thats basically a endura but in H1 steel. i think the salt would be the better choice if you wanted it in serrated edge.

Lockbacks are ambi and there are lots of good ones out there. A Ka-Bar Dozier folding hunter will go for about $20--I'm not sure it the thumbstud model has dual thumbstuds, but that also make them with an opening hole. For about $50, you could get a Spyderco Delica.

i can see the bm axis but are you serious about a swiss army knife for possible defense? before u claim its not.... how many tools fold out of it?

I'm left-handed and have had no problem with any of the Kershaws I've got. Try the zings, or a leek. The Leek has the speed-safe ambidextrous assisted opening and it's pretty inexpensive too.

I don't really think any knife is a great self defense tool. If I had to use a knife, I'd certainly prefer a fixed blade instead of a folder. The OP asked about an inexpensive general purpose knife that could be used for possible self defense. The OHT is an excellence general utility knife. It opens with one hand. It could be pressed into a defensive role just fine. That it has other tools folded into the handle takes nothing away from its defense capabilities. I'm not the first to suggest that the OHT can be an adequate defense tool.
